The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today (October 28) held a ceremony at the Che Kung Temple Sports Centre to welcome the HKSAR Delegation to the 14th National Games of the People's Republic of China (14th National Games) returning from the Games.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Head of the HKSAR Delegation and the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Vincent Liu, said Hong Kong athletes have encountered unprecedented challenges when preparing for the 14th National Games in light of the latest pandemic situation. Nevertheless, they demonstrated perseverance and obtained remarkable results in the competitions.
Mr Liu said that the Government will allocate resources to support the development of elite athletes and sports development. The commissioning of the Kai Tak Sports Park in 2023 will also foster more diversified development in sports and provide young people as well as retired athletes with job and development opportunities. He also hoped that the public would support and participate in the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China in 2025 which will be hosted by Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macao.
The 14th National Games, with 35 competition events, was held in Shaanxi Province between September 15 and 27. A total of 169 Hong Kong athletes competed in 18 final events at the Games, namely archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, canoeing (sprint), cycling (road race, track and mountain bike), equestrian (jumping), fencing, golf, gymnastics (rhythmic gymnastics), table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball (beach volleyball), baseball/softball (baseball), karatedo, sport climbing and wushu (taolu and sanda).
The Hong Kong delegation strived for the best in the competitions and won a total of seven medals, with two gold and five bronze in cycling, karatedo and fencing. Moreover, a Hong Kong representative also won a silver medal in table tennis in a sport-for-all event.

Also attending the ceremony today were the President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Delegation, Mr Timothy Fok; the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Honorary Adviser of the Delegation, Mr Joe Wong; the Commissioner for Sports and member of the Organising Committee of the Delegation, Mr Yeung Tak-keung; and the deputy head of sports section of the Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Mr Zhu Jianping.
