The Acting Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Ellis Lai, today (September 14) welcomed a delegation led by Vice Minister of Commerce Ms Guo Tingting visiting Hong Kong Customs at the Kwai Chung Customhouse. The two parties exchanged views on bolstering the maritime services and promoting the Free Trade Agreement Transhipment Facilitation Scheme. The delegation toured the Kwai Chung Customhouse and visited the Cargo Examination Compound there to learn about the operation of sea cargo clearance of Hong Kong Customs.
During the visit, Mr Lai introduced to the delegation about Hong Kong Customs' efforts in facilitating the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative, including the development of an intermodal operation which expedites the efficiency of customs clearance for cross-boundary shipments, and the promotion of mutual recognition of the Hong Kong Authorized Economic Operators in the Belt and Road countries and regions, helping Hong Kong enterprises to "go global" and upholding Hong Kong's status as an international maritime and trade centre.
