The Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance (Amendment of Schedule 2) Order 2021 (the Amendment Order) was published in the Gazette today (June 18). The Amendment Order amends Schedule 2 to the Ordinance to facilitate clinical training of veterinary students in Hong Kong.
"The amendment aims to permit a student of a full-time course in a veterinary programme at the City University of Hong Kong or a university, college or school recognised by the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong to practise acts of veterinary surgery and provide veterinary services as part of the clinical training required by that veterinary course under the direction, supervision or direct and continuous supervision, as the case may be, of a registered veterinary surgeon," a Government spokesman said.
"With the establishment of a veterinary school at the City University of Hong Kong, it is necessary to allow veterinary students to perform a wider variety of veterinary surgery acts under the appropriate level of supervision, so that local veterinary students may receive training on all veterinary surgery acts required by their curricula," the spokesman continued.
The Amendment Order will be tabled at the Legislative Council for negative vetting on June 23, with a view to coming into effect on September 1, 2021.
