Vacancy in Central and Western District Council

The Home Affairs Department announced today (May 29) the existence of a vacant elected seat in the Central and Western District Council Chung Wan Constituency.

Mr Hui Chi-fung, an elected member of the Council, had been consecutively absent from all the meetings of the Council since January 28, 2021, without obtaining the consent of the Council before the end of the disqualifying period. Pursuant to section 24(5) of the District Councils Ordinance (Cap. 547), an elected member is disqualified from holding office for the remainder of that member's term of office if the member does not attend meetings of the District Council for four consecutive months (the disqualifying period) without obtaining the consent of the Council before the end of that period. Accordingly, Mr Hui has been disqualified from holding office and his office has become vacant since today.

The Director of Home Affairs will later declare by notice in the Gazette the existence of the vacancy pursuant to section 32(1) of the Ordinance.
