Use of transitional housing as community isolation facilities
The Government announced today (February 28) that newly completed transitional housing units will be used as community isolation facilities. The Transport and Housing Bureau (THB) has obtained the consent of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited and Pok Oi Hospital to use the two transitional housing projects of United Court at Tung Tau in Yuen Long and the first phase of Pok Oi Kong Ha Wai Village in Kam Tin, Yuen Long, as community isolation facilities. The two projects will provide more than 2 500 units, which are expected to accommodate over 5 000 isolated persons.
The THB is co-ordinating relevant organisations, contractors and government departments to carry out the conversion works at full speed, in order to put the facilities into operation as soon as possible and help cut the chains of community transmission.
The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, expressed his gratitude to Pok Oi Hospital, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Limited and other organisations for their concerted efforts to support the Government's epidemic prevention and anti-epidemic work.
As for the families who have been arranged to live in these two transitional housing projects, the Government will provide them ex-gratia allowances under the Anti-epidemic Fund.
