Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases at Tuen Mun Hospital
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding an earlier announcement on Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) confirmed cases, the spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital made the following update today (August 28):
Following a contact tracing investigation, two more patients, males aged 72 and 77 in the surgical ward, were identified as VRE carriers. One of them has been discharged earlier, while the other one is currently being treated in isolation and is in stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward concerned. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health for necessary follow-up.
