The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients with Rhinovirus/Enterovirus in a paediatric ward, the spokesperson for Hong Kong Children's Hospital (HKCH) gave the following update today (June 28):
One more patient, a 2-year-old male, in the ward concerned presented with fever and respiratory symptoms. Appropriate testing was arranged for him and his test result was positive for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. He is now being treated under isolation and in stable condition.
Infection control measures have been stepped up according to the established guidelines, including thorough cleaning and disinfection of the ward concerned, stringent droplet and contact precautions, and enhanced hand hygiene for staff and patients.
The hospital will continue to closely monitor the other patients in the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
