The spokesperson for Kwong Wah Hospital gave the following update today (November 28) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients confirm with Rhinovirus/Enterovirus infection in a paediatric ward:
Two more female paediatric patients (four and five years old) and two staff of the ward concerned had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral test had been arranged for the two paediatric patients and their test results were positive to Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. The patients are now being treated under isolation with stable condition while the two staff concerned are currently on leave.
The hospital will continue to adopt the following enhanced infection control measures according to the established guidelines.
- Thorough cleaning and disinfection of the ward concerned
- Enhance medical surveillance of the paediatric patients in the ward concerned
- Apply stringent droplet and contact precautions and enhance hand hygiene of staff and paediatric patients
The hospital will continue to closely monitor other paediatric patients in the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
