Update on cluster of Carbapenem Resistant Acinetobacter cases in Cheshire Home, Shatin

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients having been confirmed to be carriers of Carbapenem Resistant Acinetobacter (CRA) in a male infirmary ward, the spokesperson for the Cheshire Home, Shatin gave the following update today (December 14):
 
     In accordance with the prevailing guidelines, the hospital commenced contact tracing and identified another 59-year-old male patient in the same ward as a CRA carrier. The patient is currently receiving treatment under isolation in stable condition.
 
     Infection control measures have already been enhanced according to established guidelines. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
