UK’s Gecko to stage physical and visual theatre performance
"Institute", a physical and visual theatre performance by Gecko from the UK, will be staged in September. The show is a highlight among the various dance and multi-arts programmes of the "Beyond Multi-arts" Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
"Institute" is a visually captivating, emotionally driven performance. As people live in a busy world of high-pressure targets and even higher expectations, struggling on the verge of collapse, the performance openly invites its audience to consider what it means to care and be cared for.
Founded in 2001, Gecko is one of the leading physical theatre companies in the UK, creating work through collaboration, experimentation and play. Gecko last performed in Hong Kong in 2015 with the production "Missing", which received positive reviews.
"Institute" by Gecko will be staged at 8pm on September 6 and 7 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on September 8 (Sunday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $240 and $320 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk). For telephone credit card bookings, please call 2111 5999. For programme enquiries and various discount schemes of the "Beyond Multi-arts" Series, please call 2268 7323 or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/Programme/en/multi_arts/programs_799.html.
A pre-show talk, "Decoding Intimacy", will be held at 3pm on August 25 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Eslite Causeway Bay Store, hosted by the General Manager of the International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong), Bernice Chan. The speakers will be dance and theatre critic William Chan and dance and culture critic and playwright Cally Yu. Admission is free. Limited seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
