Transcript of remarks of SFH at media session
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, after attending a mosquito and rodent control event today (May 26):
Reporter: Can you tell us more about what the Government will be doing to tackle the problem of mosquitoes and mouses? And you also said just now the teams that are going around the districts, can you tell us more about that?
Secretary for Food and Health: The Government concerns about the rodent and mosquito control, especially in the summer months. But it is important that not only for the Government to increase resources and strengthen the work of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD), in terms of rodent and mosquito control, but we also appeal to the public to pay attention to their own hygiene. Also, many of the back lanes are very dirty, it is important for all the restaurant owners not to dump rubbish at the back lanes, so that the entire environment will be cleaner. Of course we are very concern about this, that is why at the Food and Health Bureau level, I, together with the chairmen and vice-chairmen of the environmental hygiene committees of the 18 District Councils, meet every six months to look at their concerns in the district, in terms of environmental hygiene. The FEHD is also using some new technologies to wash street and keep cleaning in the community. Together with all these efforts, I am sure that we can have a better and cleaner community.
