Transcript of remarks by LegCo President on decision of NPCSC on issues relating to qualification of LegCo Members
The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
Following is the remarks by the President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Mr Andrew Leung, on the decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPCSC) on issues relating to the qualification of Members of the LegCo of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) at a media briefing at the LegCo Complex today (November 11):
This morning, NPCSC adopted a decision on the qualification of Members of the LegCo of the HKSAR. I understand and respect the decision.
In accordance with the decision, the Government declared that four Members of the Sixth LegCo are no longer qualified for the office and their seats have been vacated since July 30 this year. I received the relevant letter from the Government this morning.
In the midst of severe economic hardship and lingering epidemic in Hong Kong, I call on Members across political spectrum to adopt a pragmatic approach in striving for the best interest of the community to resolve the prevailing challenges.
