Transcript of remarks by Acting SFH at media session
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Acting Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Chui Tak-yi, at a media session after attending the Sham Shui Po Festival today (May 19):
Reporter: …….the slaughterhouses as well as the supply chain? What is the latest arrangement with the Tusen Wan Slaughterhouse now?
Acting Secretary for Food and Health: For the resumption of supply of live pigs from the Mainland, we have already communicated with the relevant Mainland department so the approval has been given to the import of live pigs to Hong Kong. The cleansing and disinfection process of the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse had been completed last night. Today, (so far), we know about 1 300 pigs from local pig farms have been transferred to Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse and about 600 pigs are in the Tsuen Wan Slaughterhouse. Very likely tomorrow the slaughtering process will proceed and the supply of live pigs to Hong Kong will resume very soon.
