“The Originals” to revive Hong Kong musical classics
A star-studded cast will revive Hong Kong musical classics in "The Originals – Hong Kong Musicals in Concert" this October. The show, curated by noted local composer Leon Ko, promises to be a sumptuous feast of sight and sound.
"The Originals" will present a collage of excerpts from Hong Kong musicals created between the 1970s and 2020, reprising classic melodies and scenes from more than five decades. The musical works include "Pai Niang Niang", "1941 Girl", "Snow.Wolf.Lake", "The Border Town", "The Good Person of Szechwan", "The Passage Beyond", "Sing Out" and "A Tale of the Southern Sky". Those set to perform in the concerts will include eight outstanding actor-singers, namely Pichead Amornsomboon, Joe Wong, Mimi Lo, Jordan Cheng, Margaret Cheung, Rick Lau, Luna Shaw and Luk Ka-ki, as well as the Hong Kong Sinfonietta under the baton of Hong Kong's renowned conductor Yip Wing-sie.
