The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
​The spokesman for Tai Po Hospital (TPH) made the following statement today (September 6) regarding a healthcare worker assaulted incident:
A staff member of an infirmary ward was assaulted by a visitor this morning. Ward staff reported to the Police immediately and security staff also arrived on the scene to assist. The injured staff was sent to the Accident and Emergency Department of Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital for treatment. The injured staff, who suffered from head injury requiring sutures, injuries of eye, mouth and arm, was discharged after treatment.
The hospital is highly concerned about the incident and expressed sympathy to the injured staff. The hospital will provide psychological support to the staff in need. The hospital resolutely adopts a zero-tolerance attitude to any workplace violence, strongly condemns the violent acts of the person concerned, and will follow up seriously and fully co-operate with the Police investigation.
TPH has all along attached great concern to work safety for its staff under prevailing guidelines and measures to prevent workplace violence. The hospital will review and strengthen control measures in the ward to ensure workplace safety. The hospital appeals to patients and relatives to follow the advices of healthcare workers.
The hospital has reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
