Follow up on flooding

I am pursuing the issues of whether the following actions would help reduce local flood risk. This includes asking the authorities what progress they have made on the possible projects beneath. I would be interested in local comment on what is needed.

  1. Bund water containment on flood plain by the Emm
  2. Emm deepening and widening of water course in Wokingham and Winnersh
  3. Dredging of River Loddon at Loddon Bridge
  4. Containment of Loddon with higher banks at Loddon bridge roundabout
  5. Raising of road at Loddon bridge roundabout
  6. Increased water retention capacity in safe areas in Shinfield and Arborfield
  7. Further measures around Emmbrook School
  8. Measure to contain water which currently can reach homes in Earley
  9. Larger measures being considered for the course of the Loddon more generally


Government Constitutes a Committee for Improvement in National Sports Development Code and Functioning of National Sports Federations

In the wake of IOA episode, the Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Vijay Goel has decided to constitute a Committee headed by Secretary (Sports) to suggest improvements in the National Sports Development Code and functioning of Sports Federations etc.

Trash Skimmers to be Introduced In Six New Cities for Surface Cleaning Of Ganga

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) will introduce trash skimmers for surface cleaning of Ganga in six more cities in the first week of this month. The cities are Rishikesh, Haridwar, Garh Mukhteshwar, Sahibganj, Kolkata and Navdweep. Urban Local Bodies will be the nodal agency to monitor this work.



News story: HM Courts & Tribunals Service advice to debtors on unpaid historic fines

HMCTS provides advice to debtors who may receive a letter for unpaid historic fines.

In September 2016 HMCTS set up the Historic Debt Project to tackle outstanding debt which has accumulated over the years from unpaid criminal fines and financial orders where debtors could not previously be traced.

With the benefit of new intelligence and tracing tools, outstanding debts up to 10 years old are being pursued by a dedicated team in the HMCTS National Compliance and Enforcement Service.

Since the project commenced in September debtors across England and Wales have received letters and text messages from the Historic Debt Team about payment of fines and impositions for past offences. To date significant sums have been collected, including compensation owed to victims of crime.

The team will continue over the coming months to identify and enforce unpaid historic fines. If you have received a letter you should make immediate payment. If you have any concerns about a letter you have received please contact the Historic Debt Team who will be able to assist further. Information on how you can pay your fine will be included with the fines notice.
