Labour offering fantasy plans for NHS

29 May 2024

Reacting to Labour’s NHS plans, Green Party co-leader and parliamentary candidate for Waveney Valley, Adrian Ramsay said:

“Labour is offering fantasy plans to end the NHS crisis. It wants to pay the private sector more, make existing staff work longer hours and squeeze more patients into overcrowded wards.

“Waiting for growth, won’t cut waiting lists.

“You can’t seriously reduce the waiting lists, or build a health service for the future, without raising the money you actually need through fairer tax, as well as tackling the profit motive.

“Greens will, next week, be unveiling our practical solutions that offer real hope and real change, support staff and invest in facilities to defend our NHS.”

Greens urge UN Security Council action over Gaza

28 May 2024

Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer said:

“The horrific scenes following the latest Israeli bombing in Rafah, and previous rocket fire from Hamas into Israel, underline why the UN Security Council must act today to enforce the order from the International Court of Justice to end the fighting, release hostages and dramatically increase the flow of humanitarian aid.

“This is the way to create the conditions necessary for a long-term political solution to the conflict.”

Greens respond to Labour’s economic plans

28 May 2024

Reacting to Labour’s plans to chase narrow economic growth over other priorities, Adrian Ramsay said:

“The transition to a green economy provides major opportunities which we must grasp – opportunities for warmer homes, lower bills and good new jobs. The Green Party would invest in the technologies we need to ensure a sustainable and secure future.

“But we would not be chasing growth for growth’s sake. We need to ensure our economy works in a way that safeguards our climate and enables nature to flourish.

“And we need to make sure the economy we are building is fairer as well as greener.

“This is why we would secure the investment needed to restore our public services by asking the very richest in society to contribute more. Even modest changes to the tax system for the wealthy could make a big differences – and only the Green Party is pledging to do this.”

Greens respond to Conservative plans for national conscription for 18 year olds

26 May 2024

Responding to the news that The Conservatives plan to bring back national conscription, Green Party Co-Leader, Carla Denyer said,

“This policy is removed from reality. It is not what our military needs and it certainly isn’t what our young people need.

“What young people tell us they need is access to the housing market, to higher education that doesn’t plunge them into debt, and to meaningful jobs that pay well.

“Not military conscription.

“It is striking just how removed this Conservative government is from the priorities of young people today”.

Green Party reacts to new energy price cap

24 May 2024

Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer welcomed the latest energy price cap drop, but warned it still left average consumers with bills £400 higher than before the energy crisis.

Denyer said:

“Consumers are still paying for a crisis not of their making.

“Neither the Conservatives nor Labour are offering the real, practical, lasting solutions that can bring down people’s bills and protect the environment by reducing home energy use.

“Fiddling with the price cap is not enough.

“A mass programme of government-backed, council delivered home insulation starting immediately after the General Election is a win-win solution for people and the planet and offers people hope and positive change.

“We could reduce bills for the long term and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by building new homes that are easier and cheaper to heat and boosting insulation in existing homes. Insulating people’s homes means they can stay warm while using less energy, save money and produce fewer harmful carbon emissions.”
