Greens launch General Election campaign for real hope and real change

30 May 2024

Co-leader, and parliamentary candidate for Bristol Central, Carla Denyer will tell the party’s General Election campaign launch later today:

“Across the country, people now have the chance to vote for real hope and real change.

“Our politics is broken, our public services are on their knees and people are worse off now than when the Conservatives came to power 14 years ago.

The case for change is obvious, but it has to be real change that offers real hope. Half measures and broken pledges will not do.

“The Conservatives are clearly on their way out of government, but Labour is failing to offer the real change needed.

“We have the practical solutions to the cost-of-living crisis, building new affordable homes, protecting our NHS from creeping privatisation and cleaning up our toxic rivers and seas.”

The party’s campaign launch will take place in Bristol, where the party now leads the council after winning every single seat in the Bristol Central constituency.

Co-leader Adrian Ramsay, who is standing in the new Waveney Valley constituency on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, will say:

“After so much damage by the outgoing Conservative government, we need more than a few tweaks from a new Labour government. Green MPs will push the next government for bold action to achieve the real changes that are needed to confront the big challenges our country faces.

“Over the past five years, we have increased the number of councillors five-fold. Greens have dramatically increased our number of councillors elected, from here in Bristol, to councils across Waveney Valley and from Newcastle to Hastings.

“Over the next few weeks, we will build on that success and on 4 July ask voters to elect at least four Green MPs in our target seats and support our candidates standing across England and Wales. We are offering real hope and real change.”

Labour offering fantasy plans for NHS

29 May 2024

Reacting to Labour’s NHS plans, Green Party co-leader and parliamentary candidate for Waveney Valley, Adrian Ramsay said:

“Labour is offering fantasy plans to end the NHS crisis. It wants to pay the private sector more, make existing staff work longer hours and squeeze more patients into overcrowded wards.

“Waiting for growth, won’t cut waiting lists.

“You can’t seriously reduce the waiting lists, or build a health service for the future, without raising the money you actually need through fairer tax, as well as tackling the profit motive.

“Greens will, next week, be unveiling our practical solutions that offer real hope and real change, support staff and invest in facilities to defend our NHS.”

Greens urge UN Security Council action over Gaza

28 May 2024

Green Party co-leader Carla Denyer said:

“The horrific scenes following the latest Israeli bombing in Rafah, and previous rocket fire from Hamas into Israel, underline why the UN Security Council must act today to enforce the order from the International Court of Justice to end the fighting, release hostages and dramatically increase the flow of humanitarian aid.

“This is the way to create the conditions necessary for a long-term political solution to the conflict.”

Greens respond to Labour’s economic plans

28 May 2024

Reacting to Labour’s plans to chase narrow economic growth over other priorities, Adrian Ramsay said:

“The transition to a green economy provides major opportunities which we must grasp – opportunities for warmer homes, lower bills and good new jobs. The Green Party would invest in the technologies we need to ensure a sustainable and secure future.

“But we would not be chasing growth for growth’s sake. We need to ensure our economy works in a way that safeguards our climate and enables nature to flourish.

“And we need to make sure the economy we are building is fairer as well as greener.

“This is why we would secure the investment needed to restore our public services by asking the very richest in society to contribute more. Even modest changes to the tax system for the wealthy could make a big differences – and only the Green Party is pledging to do this.”

Greens respond to Conservative plans for national conscription for 18 year olds

26 May 2024

Responding to the news that The Conservatives plan to bring back national conscription, Green Party Co-Leader, Carla Denyer said,

“This policy is removed from reality. It is not what our military needs and it certainly isn’t what our young people need.

“What young people tell us they need is access to the housing market, to higher education that doesn’t plunge them into debt, and to meaningful jobs that pay well.

“Not military conscription.

“It is striking just how removed this Conservative government is from the priorities of young people today”.
