Guidance: Evidence and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO)

Updated: 129, 130 and 131 updated

Our seas are vast and complex and there is much still to learn and understand about their delicate ecosystems. Access to high quality evidence is critical to this.

Evidence influences much of our work, ensuring we continue to make informed decisions using the most up to date research to manage the increasing demands on the marine environment and its resources

Evidence strategy

The Marine Management Organisation’s (MMO) Evidence Strategy 2015 to 2020, sets out our evidence requirements and how they will be delivered over the next five years, increasing access to high quality research and improving understanding of the marine environment.

Part 1 of the strategy was published in July 2015. It identifies and prioritises evidence gaps and sets out existing delivery functions and the associated evidence base for these functions.

Part 2 of the strategy was published August 2016. It sets out how knowledge exchange, partnership and influencing research will be used to deliver our future evidence requirements.

Evidence requirements

As part of the strategy development we reviewed our evidence requirements. Each evidence requirement has a more detailed Evidence Delivery Plan. This includes research requirements, how the evidence will be used, a proposed method for filling the gap and a summary of existing evidence and current activity.

Evidence reports

Knowledge sharing and collaboration is an important part of our evidence strategy. All our evidence reports are published and available online.

Open consultation: Proposed catch limits for June 2018

Please contact the MMO if you have any comment to make about the suggested catch limits which will be put into force on 1 June 2018.
