Government appoints members to Hospital Authority

     The Government announced today (March 8) the appointment of three new members to the Hospital Authority (HA), and the reappointment of three serving members.

     Among the new members appointed, Professor Chiu Wai-yan is appointed in the capacity of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for a period of two years from February 27, 2024, to February 26, 2026. The other two new members, Professor Zhang Zhang-jin and Mr Matthew Kwok Pui-ho, will be appointed for a period of two years from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026.

     Professor Zhang is the Professor and Coordinator of Chinese Medicine Service for Hospital and Development of the School of Chinese Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKU). He is also the Chief of Service (COS) of the Department of Chinese Medicine of the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital and COS of the Department of Chinese Medicine of Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong.

     Mr Kwok is an Advanced Practice Occupational Therapist of Pok Oi Hospital.

     Among the serving members reappointed, Professor Lau Chak-sing continues to serve as an HA member in his capacity of the Dean of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of HKU for a period of two years from February 27, 2024, to February 26, 2026. The other two serving members, Ms Margaret Cheng Wai-ching and Ms Mary Huen Wai-yi, will be reappointed for a period of two years from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2026.

     The Secretary for Health, Professor Lo Chung-mau, welcomed the three new members joining the HA. He also expressed gratitude to the three serving members reappointed and extended heartfelt thanks to the outgoing members, Professor Francis Chan Ka-leung and Dr Leung Wing-cheong, for their invaluable contribution to the HA.  

     The HA comprises a Chairman, 23 non-official members, three public officers and one principal officer from the HA. The membership list to be effective from April 1, 2024, is as follows:

Tenders invited for Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns – Civil Works for Sewage Treatment Facilities and Associated Works

     The Drainage Services Department (DSD) today (March 8) gazetted a notice to invite tenders for the contract for Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns – Civil Works for Sewage Treatment Facilities and Associated Works (Contract No. DC/2023/18).

     The works mainly comprise:

  • construction of the civil structures for sewage and sludge treatment facilities and the associated utilities and roadworks of the proposed Sha Tin Cavern Sewage Treatment Works;
  • construction of two maintenance workshop buildings;
  • construction and installation of fire services, building services installations and related electrical and mechanical facilities in ancillary buildings; and
  • other related works.

     The works are scheduled to commence in December 2024 and will take about 61 months to complete.

     The DSD has commissioned AECOM Asia Company Limited to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors can obtain the tender forms and further particulars from the company at 12/F, Tower 2, Grand Central Plaza, 138 Sha Tin Rural Committee Road, Sha Tin, New Territories.

     Tender submissions should be placed in the Government Secretariat Tender Box located at the lobby of the Public Entrance on the Ground Floor, East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong. The closing time for the tender is noon on May 3.

     A notice of objection should describe the objector's interest and the manner in which he or she alleges that he or she will be affected by the works or the use. EMSD announces test results of LPG quality in February 2024

     The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (March 8) announced that the department collected 10 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) samples from auto-LPG filling stations and LPG terminals on a random basis in February 2024 for laboratory tests. The results show that the LPG quality of all these samples complied with auto-LPG specifications.
 
     The detailed test results are available on the EMSD website (www.emsd.gov.hk/en/rl/lpg_sample_analysis_simple). Enquiries can also be made to the EMSD hotline on 2333 3762.
 
     In addition, the EMSD has been vetting independent third-party test reports submitted by LPG supply companies for each shipment to ensure that the quality of imported LPG complies with the specified requirements.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (March 8) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Big Wave Bay Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island, and Silverstrand Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Sai Kung District. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at these beaches.
