Tenders invited for site formation and infrastructure works at To Yuen Tung, Tai Po

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (March 22) gazetted a notice to invite tenders for the contract for the Site Formation and Infrastructure Works at To Yuen Tung, Tai Po (Contract No. CV/2023/18). The closing time for the tender is noon on May 17.

     The works mainly include:

  • site formation of about three hectares at To Yuen Tung, Tai Po;
  • road improvement works at the junction of Ma Wo Road/Tat Wan Road, the junction of Tat Wan Road/Nam Wan Road and Kwong Fuk Road roundabout, and construction of a footpath on the eastern side of Ma Shing Path;
  • improvement of existing sewage mains at Ma Wo Road, Tat Wan Road and Nam Wan Road; and
  • other infrastructure works including drainage, waterworks, compensatory planting and landscaping.

     The works are scheduled to commence in September 2024 and will take about 43 months to complete.

     The CEDD has commissioned Mott MacDonald Hong Kong Limited to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors may obtain the forms of tender and further particulars from the company at 3/F, Manulife Place, 348 Kwun Tong Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon.

Supply of one refrigerating appliance model and one storage type electric water heater model forbidden in HK (with photos)

     The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (March 22) removed one refrigerating appliance model and one storage type electric water heater model from the record of listed models under the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance. Supply of these products is no longer allowed in Hong Kong with immediate effect.

     The EMSD administers the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme in accordance with the Ordinance and selects samples of the listed models regularly for conducting compliance monitoring tests to check whether they conform with the energy efficiency and performance characteristics submitted to the EMSD. As the test results of the products concerned showed that they failed to reach the relevant energy efficiency and/or performance characteristics, the EMSD has decided to remove these products from the record of listed models.
 
     The EMSD has served notices under the Ordinance to the importers concerned. The importers will publish newspaper notices to announce the termination of supply of the products concerned in Hong Kong.

Reappointment to Employees Retraining Board

     The Government announced today (March 22) the reappointment of Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin as a member of the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) for a term of two years with effect from April 1, 2024.
 
     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun, welcomed the reappointment.
 
     The ERB is a statutory body established in 1992 under the Employees Retraining Ordinance (Cap 423). The composition of its membership, comprising representatives of employers and employees, and persons connected with vocational training and retraining or manpower planning, is specified in the law. It is responsible for providing retraining courses and related placement services under the Manpower Development Scheme.

Special traffic and transport arrangements for World Triathlon Cup event in Central and Wan Chai districts this weekend

     The Transport Department (TD) today (March 22) reminded members of the public that the following special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in phases this weekend (March 23 and 24) to facilitate the holding of the World Triathlon Cup event in Central and Wan Chai districts.
      
     Intermittent road closures will be implemented by the Police in the vicinities of Central Harbourfront and Wan Chai North (including Lung Wo Road, Yiu Sing Street, Lung Hop Street, Expo Drive, Expo Drive Central, and Expo Drive East) from 6am to 8am this Saturday (March 23), during which vehicular traffic may be affected.
      
     The section of Expo Drive between Legislative Council Road and Expo Drive Central will also be temporarily closed from 10am on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday (March 24).
      
     Road closures and traffic diversions will be implemented in phases in the vicinities of the aforementioned road sections from 1am on Sunday to reopening of the closed roads at about 6pm on the same day. Four bus routes (including Citybus route Nos. H1 and H2, and cross-harbour bus route Nos. 104 and 961) traversing the affected road sections will be subject to temporary diversions via Fleming Road or Connaught Road Central.
      
     Moreover, the terminal point of cross-harbour bus route No. 961 at Expo Drive East will be relocated to Harbour Road outside the Wan Chai Swimming Pool from 1am to 12.30pm this Sunday, when the bus stop of Citybus route No. H1 at Expo Drive East near Golden Bauhinia Square will also be temporarily suspended.
      
     Members of the public are advised to make use of public transport services as far as possible to avoid traffic congestion and unnecessary delays. During the event, the TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation. The Police may adjust the traffic arrangements subject to the prevailing crowd and traffic conditions in the areas. Members of the public should pay attention to the latest traffic news through radio, television or the "HKeMobility" mobile application.

Cases of making ex gratia payments from Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund gazetted

     â€‹The Commissioner for Labour today (March 22) gave notices in the Gazette under section 16(1A) and/or section 18(2) of the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Ordinance (Chapter 380) for cases with ex gratia payments from the Protection of Wages on Insolvency Fund made to employees.
