Adjustment of parking fees of government public car parks managed by TD

     The Transport Department (TD) today (May 6) announced that the parking fees of 11 government public car parks under its management will be increased with effect from June 1. 

     "In considering the adjustment of parking fees of the 11 government public car parks, the TD has taken into account several factors, including the charges of nearby public car parks, public acceptability and the utilisation of the government car parks," a spokesman for the TD said.

     The 11 car parks are Kennedy Town Car Park, Rumsey Street Car Park, Star Ferry Car Park, City Hall Car Park, Tin Hau Car Park, Shau Kei Wan Car Park, Aberdeen Car Park, Sheung Fung Street Car Park, Wong Tai Sin Car Park, Kwai Fong Car Park and Tsuen Wan Car Park.

     Unless otherwise indicated, the adjustment of parking fees of the 11 car parks is summarised as follows:

Note: The quarterly parking fees will be adjusted according to the increase rate of monthly parking fees.

     The car park operators will put up notices inside the car parks in advance to inform motorists of the fee adjustments.




LCSD welcomes public to join free programmes of Performing Arts Fun Day 2024 (with photos)

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the Performing Arts Fun Day 2024 to be held at the Sha Tin Town Hall (STTH), the Tuen Mun Town Hall (TMTH) and the Tsuen Wan Town Hall (TWTH) from 2pm on May 12, 19 and June 2 (Sundays) respectively. Members of the public are welcome to visit and enjoy the performances and fringe activities presented by various talented local young artists, and immerse themselves in the enchanting world of the performing arts.

     The Performing Arts Fun Day 2024 in the three venues will cover music, dance, theatre, and contemporary circus acts. A cappella group Boonfaysau will perform both original and arranged works of different styles. Arts group TS Crew will offer a contemporary dance and circus performance infused with elements of kung fu, Cantonese opera, dragon dance and lion dance, etc. The Class 7A Drama Group will stage "The Gallants", leading audiences to enter the world of Chinese classical literature. Dance group La P en V Innovative Dance Platform will present three original dance works.

     Different fascinating fringe activities will also be held at the three fun days, including the digitalised visual magic and mind reading performance "In Your Sight, In Your Mind" by local magician Zenneth Kok. In the STTH, members of the public can enjoy the ancient Chinese dance performance by the Hong Kong Dance Company, an interactive theatre experience "Pet Pet Superman" by the Radiant Theatre, a Cantonese opera appreciation activity for families by the Cantonese Opera Advancement Association, an interactive drama "Great Stories Fly High" by Hong Kong Theatre Works and an exhibition of props, costumes and photos of recent productions by the four above-mentioned venue partners. In the TMTH, there will be a theatrical performance, "With Love", by POP Theatre, a performance of a Cantonese opera excerpt from "Chastising the Princess" and a Cantonese opera workshop by the Glory Chinese Opera Institute, as well as a performance of a musical excerpt from "Teresa" and a theatre workshop for families by the Spring-Time Experimental Theatre. In the TWTH, there will be the "Hong Kong Youth Jazz Collective – Jazz Appreciation Concert" presented by Count-In Music and an interactive theatre, "Journey to the West", and a post-performance workshop by Ming Ri Institute for Arts Education.

     Admission to all programmes is free with limited places available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets for the fringe activities will be available at the enquiry counter of the respective venues on the event day from noon while stocks last. Import of poultry meat and products from areas in US suspended

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (May 6) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Ottawa County and Gratiot County of the State of Michigan in the United States (US), the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the above-mentioned areas with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

     A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 16 480 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 7.73 million poultry eggs from the US in the first three months of this year.

     "The CFS has contacted the American authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.




Appeal for information on missing woman in Tsuen Wan (with photo)

     Police today (May 6) appealed to the public for information on a woman who went missing in Tsuen Wan.
 
     Chan Yiu-lin, aged 54, went missing after she left her residence in Chuen Lung Chun Ha Village on May 3 afternoon. Her family made a report to Police yesterday (May 5).
  
     She is about 1.6 metres tall, 82 kilograms in weight and of fat build. She has a round face with yellow complexion and long straight grey and white hair. She was last seen wearing a grey T-shirt, blue trousers, white shoes and carrying a red backpack, a beige recycle bag, a brown recycle bag and a black trolley.
 
     Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the missing woman or may have seen her is urged to contact the Regional Missing Persons Unit of New Territories South on 3661 1174 or 6103 4963 or email to rmpu-nts-2@police.gov.hk, or contact any police station.

Five-day Mediation Week 2024 launched today (with photos)

     The Mediation Week 2024, a biennial event organised by the Department of Justice (DoJ), was officially launched today (May 6). The five-day programme, themed "Mediate First – Bridge Cultures, Build Futures", features a series of thematic events and the Mediation Conference 2024 to promote the use of mediation in various sectors. The Mediation Week opening was marked by the thematic event: School Mediation Seminar this morning.

     The School Mediation Seminar, titled "Mediation: Fostering School-Family-Community Partnerships", featured a panel discussion where experienced mediators, educators, students and parents talked about how they have successfully used mediation techniques to resolve conflicts in school settings with practical tips and lessons learned from their mediation experiences. It was followed by a sharing session where winners of the Mediation Essay Competition 2024 shared their views on mediation and insights about their awarded essays. A prize presentation ceremony for the competition was held after the session. Concluding the seminar, the Secretary for Justice, Mr Paul Lam, SC, delivered his closing remarks and officiated at the "Mediate First" Pledge Signing Ceremony for Students.

     The seminar aiming to nurture the culture of mediation among students and the education sector was well received, attracting about 400 registrations for participation on-site and online. The DoJ will continue its dedicated efforts in promoting the use of mediation as an amicable means to resolve disputes in various sectors, thereby consolidating Hong Kong's status as a centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region.

     Fully supported by the two legal professional bodies in Hong Kong, and other legal and dispute resolution services organisations, as well as government departments and relevant organisations, the Mediation Week 2024 will also feature the following events this week:
