Proposed construction of marine facilities between Airport Island and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port gazetted

     The Government intends to allow the Airport Authority Hong Kong to construct a new pier and berthing facilities between the east of Airport Island and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port. The extent of the area of foreshore and seabed affected is described in a notice gazetted today (May 24).
      
     The proposed works aim to provide mooring space for berthing of pleasure vessels and accommodate ferry services related to recreational activities and tourism, in order to enhance the Hong Kong International Airport as an international intermodal transport hub. The proposed works are scheduled to commence in 2026 for completion in 2028. 
      
     The notice and its related plan are posted near the site. The plan is also available for inspection at:
 
* Survey and Mapping Office of the Lands Department (6/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong) (where copies can be purchased on order);
* Islands Home Affairs Enquiry Centre (Tung Chung) of the Islands District Office (1/F, Tung Chung Post Office Building, 6 Mei Tung Street, Tung Chung, Lantau Island); and
* Lands Department's website (www.landsd.gov.hk) under Government Notices.
 
     Any person who considers that he or she has an interest, right or easement in or over the foreshore and seabed involved may submit a written objection to the Director of Lands, 20/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong, within two months from the gazette date, i.e. on or before July 24. The notice of such an objection shall describe the interest, right or easement of the objector and the manner in which he or she will be allegedly affected.




Appointment of Executive Directors to Insurance Authority

     The Government announced today (May 24) that the Financial Secretary, in exercise of the authority under the Insurance Ordinance (Cap. 41) delegated to him by the Chief Executive, has appointed Mr Lee Moung-mo as the Executive Director, General Business, and Mr Marty Lui Yu-kwok as the Executive Director, Long Term Business of the Insurance Authority (IA), for a term of three years from May 27, 2024, to May 26, 2027.
 
     A spokesman for the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau said, "Mr Lee and Mr Lui, who have been serving executives in the IA, are both financial professionals with extensive regulatory experience and knowledge of the insurance sector. We look forward to their continued service to the IA in their new positions to promote the further development of the insurance market in Hong Kong."
 
     Mr Lee joined the IA in May 2018 and served as Head, Technical Expert Team, before the appointment. He held senior executive positions in the insurance industry before joining the IA. Mr Lui joined the IA at its inception in 2017 and served as Associate Director, Long Term Business, before the appointment. He has extensive experience in the financial regulatory and insurance fields.




Firing practice for June 2024

     Firing practice will take place at two military sites, namely the San Wai/Tai Ling Firing Range and the Tsing Shan Firing Range, next month (June).
 
     Red flags or red lamps will be hoisted at the firing areas before and during firing practice. For their safety, people are advised not to enter the firing area.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (May 24) that according to the Beach Water Quality Forecast System of the Environmental Protection Department, the Beach Water Quality Forecast Index of Silver Mine Bay Beach in Islands District is 4, which means the water quality is "Very Poor". The red flag has been hoisted and beachgoers are advised not to enter the water to safeguard their health.
