HKSAR Government welcomes NPCSC’s adoption of Patriotic Education Law of People’s Republic of China

     â€‹The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government welcomes the adoption of the Patriotic Education Law of the People’s Republic of China at the 6th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress today (October 24). The law will take effect on January 1, 2024, which aims to strengthen patriotic education, inherit and promote the spirit of patriotism.

     The Patriotic Education Law of the People’s Republic of China sets out the main content of patriotic education, covering areas such as ideology and politics, history and culture, national symbols, the magnificent scenery and historical and cultural heritage of the motherland, constitution and law, national unity and ethnic solidarity, national security and defense, and the deeds of heroes and martyrs and role models. The law also includes provisions on patriotic education for different groups such as compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

     The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, said, “The HKSAR Government has been working together with various sectors of the community to promote patriotic education, with a view to enhancing the sense of national identity and patriotism of different sectors of the community. The HKSAR Government will fully facilitate the relevant work to co-ordinate within the Government and also the patriotic forces of different sectors in making persistent efforts to promote patriotic education, so as to enable the public to gain further knowledge of the history, culture and rapid development in all aspects of our country and understand the close relationship between Mainland and Hong Kong.” read more

SCST congratulates Hong Kong, China Delegation on winning five more medals today in Asian Para Games

     The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (October 24) congratulated the Hong Kong, China Delegation on winning five more medals at the 4th Asian Para Games Hangzhou. 

     Mr Yeung said, “Hong Kong, China team athletes are fully committed to give their best and demonstrated their strength and outstanding techniques in winning the medals. Our teams have shown immense team spirit and determination, which means a lot more than the medals they won. We are so proud of them. I wish Hong Kong athletes shine with more accomplishments in the future.”

     The Hong Kong, China Delegation has so far won 10 medals, namely two golds, five silvers and three bronzes, at this Asian Para Games. The list of medals won today are as follows:

SCST congratulates Chan Yui-Lam on winning a gold medal in Asian Para Games

     The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (October 24) congratulated Chan Yui-lam on winning a gold medal in Women’s 100m Backstroke S14 for the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the 4th Asian Para Games Hangzhou. 

     Mr Yeung said, “Chan outcompeted her opponents with skills. Her victory with a gold medal is well-deserved. We are so thrilled about her accomplishment. We wish she would continue to scale new heights in the sports sector.” read more

39 nomination forms for District Council Ordinary Election received today

     A total of 39 nomination forms for the 2023 District Council Ordinary Election were received by the Returning Officers for the 18 District Committees constituencies (DCCs) and 44 District Council geographical constituencies (DCGCs) today (October 24).

     This brings to 361 the total number of nomination forms received since the start of the nomination period on October 17. The nomination period will continue until October 30.

     The number of nomination forms received for each District Council is as follows:

     The Registration and Electoral Office reminds nominees that due to limited space in the Returning Officer’s office, each nominee shall be accompanied by only one companion during submission of the nomination form.
