HKMA issues alert regarding specific website

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

     The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public in Hong Kong that the firm as referred to on the website (https://greenlandfinance-hk.com) does not have the authorization of the Monetary Authority (MA) under the Banking Ordinance to carry on banking business, or the business of taking deposits, in Hong Kong.
      
     Given the global nature of the Internet, members of the public are reminded to verify the status of any organisation claiming to the public in Hong Kong that it has the authorization of the MA, prior to transferring any funds to, or providing any personal information to, any such organisation.
      
     A list of authorized institutions is available on the HKMA's website (www.hkma.gov.hk). Members of the public may also check the status of any entity which holds itself out as authorized by the HKMA by emailing the HKMA's public enquiry service (publicenquiry@hkma.gov.hk).




LegCo Subcommittee on Matters Relating to Railways visits Data Studio and Ho Tung Lau Depot of MTR (with photos)

     The Legislative Council Subcommittee on Matters Relating to Railways visited the Data Studio and Ho Tung Lau Depot of the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) at Fo Tan today (December 10) to learn about the latest situation of MTRCL's application of innovation and technology (I&T) and the promotion of "Smart Railway".

     Members first toured MTR Ho Tung Lau Depot and received a briefing from MTRCL representatives on the daily operation of the depot, including the introduction of I&T to drive "Smart Maintenance" and to provide maintenance and repair services for the East Rail Line trains.

     Members then visited MTR Data Studio at Fo Tan Railway House to further understand the application of technologies such as the artificial intelligence system, image analytics, Internet of Things and big data analytics to enhance efficiency and quality of maintenance. Members noted that the Data Studio uses the Smart Passenger Instrumented Revenue Train system to monitor and analyse the big data of railway facilities condition in real-time, thus allowing for the early detection of potential safety issues or abnormal operation, facilitating preventive maintenance and enhancing operation safety.

     During the visit, Members shared insights with MTRCL representatives on issues including the future direction and challenges of promoting "Smart Railway", and enhancing railway service efficiency and responsiveness.

     Members who participated in the visit included Chairman of the Subcommittee, Mr Gary Zhang and Deputy Chairman, Mr Chan Siu-hung; as well as non-Subcommittee members Dr Junius Ho and Mr Andrew Lam.

Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs commences visit to Laos (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak, commenced her visit to countries along the Belt and Road regions, namely Laos and Vietnam, today (December 10).
      
     Upon arrival in Vientiane, Laos, this afternoon, Miss Mak visited the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Ms Fang Hong. She expressed her gratitude to Ms Fang and the Embassy for the support to the work of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau (HYAB). Miss Mak and Ms Fang exchanged views on matters related to promoting youth development.
      
     Miss Mak said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government attaches great importance to youth development and actively promotes exchanges among young people from Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas. Diverse youth exchange and internship activities on the Mainland and overseas have been organised to enhance young people's understanding of the country, broaden their global exposure and expand their horizons. Among these initiatives, the HYAB has collaborated with organisations such as the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and the Agency for Volunteer Service, to organise the UNV – Hong Kong Universities Volunteer Internship Programme, which funds Hong Kong university students to undertake voluntary internships at different United Nations agencies for six months. This year, the programme has expanded to more countries along the Belt and Road region, including Laos and Vietnam. A total of 25 Hong Kong students participated in the programme and three of them are conducting voluntary internships in Laos.
      
     In the evening, Miss Mak had dinner with three Hong Kong youths who participated in the internship. She learned about their working environment and daily life in different agencies under the United Nations.
      
     Miss Mak will visit the department and organisation responsible for youth affairs in Laos, and will visit agencies providing volunteer internship positions for university students tomorrow (December 11).

Fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens related to China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited

     The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) wishes to alert members of the public to a press release issued by China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited relating to fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens, which have been reported to the HKMA. A hyperlink to the press release is available on the HKMA website.
      
     The HKMA wishes to remind the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks which direct them to the banks' websites to carry out transactions. They will not ask customers for sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or one-time password, by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks).
      
     Anyone who has provided his or her personal information, or who has conducted any financial transactions, through or in response to the websites or login screens concerned, should contact the bank using the contact information provided in the press release, and report the matter to the Police by contacting the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.
