Government appoints self-recommended youth members to Intangible Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee

     â€‹The Government announced today (January 5) the appointment of two members to the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Advisory Committee through the Member Self-recommendation Scheme for Youth (MSSY) from January 5 to December 31, 2024. The two newly appointed members are Mr Chan Sai-leong and Ms Lee Yan-kwan. Mr Chan is a temple manager, while Ms Lee is the co-founder and chief executive officer of a social enterprise.
      
     The ICH Advisory Committee, established in 2008, comprises local academics, experts and community personalities. The ICH Advisory Committee and its two sub-committees, namely the Sub-committee on ICH Funding Scheme and the Sub-committee on ICH Items, advise the Government on the research of ICH and measures to safeguard and promote ICH.
      
     The Government regularly recruits young persons aged between 18 and 35 who are eager to serve the community to join the Government’s advisory committees through the MSSY, with a view to providing more opportunities for young people to participate in policy discussion. read more

Tenders invited for Fanling North New Development Area Site Formation and Infrastructure Works

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (January 5) gazetted a notice to invite tenders for the contract for Fanling North New Development Area, Remaining Phase: Site Formation and Infrastructure Works (East) (Contract No. ND/2024/07). The closing time for the tender is noon on March 15.
 
     The works mainly include:

  • site formation of lands and ground investigation within Fanling North New Development Area (FLN NDA);
  • construction of at-grade roads connecting FLN NDA to Fanling Highway and associated junction/road improvements;
  • construction of noise barriers and low noise road surfacing;
  • construction of common utility enclosure and associated works; and
  • ancillary works including footbridges, footpaths, cycle tracks, lighting, traffic aids, sewage pumping stations, drainage, sewerage, water mains, landscaping works, slope works and electrical and mechanical works.
 
     The works are scheduled to commence in July 2024 and will take about 66 months to complete.
 
     The CEDD has commissioned Atkins China Limited to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors may obtain the forms of tender and further particulars from the company at 13/F, Wharf T&T Centre, Harbour City, 7 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.

Tenders invited for fresh water and flushing water service reservoirs works for Fanling North New Development Area

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (January 5) gazetted a notice to invite tenders for the contract for Fanling North New Development Area, Remaining Phase: Fresh Water and Flushing Water Service Reservoirs and Associated Works (Contract No. ND/2024/06). The closing time for the tender is noon on March 1.

     The works mainly include:

  • construction of a fresh water service reservoir, a flushing water service reservoir and associated site formation, geotechnical, roadworks, power supply, drainage and landscaping works;
  • laying of about 5.7-kilometre-long fresh water mains and about 5.7-km-long flushing water mains;
  • installation of pumps and associated electrical and mechanical works within Shek Wu Hui Water Reclamation Plant constructed by the Water Supplies Department; and
  • implementation of environmental mitigation measures for the works mentioned above.

     The works are scheduled to commence in the third quarter this year and will take about 40 months to complete.

     The CEDD has commissioned Binnies Hong Kong Limited to design and supervise the works. Interested contractors may obtain the forms of tender and further particulars from the company at 43/F, AIA Kowloon Tower, 100 How Ming Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon.

Rates and Government rent due January 31

     Demand notes for rates and/or Government rent for the quarter from January to March 2024 have been issued, and payment should be made by January 31, 2024.

     Payment can be made:

(1) by using autopay, PPS, bank automated teller machines (ATMs), the Faster Payment System (FPS) or Internet banking;

(2) by uploading an e-Cheque/e-Cashier’s Order via the Pay e-Cheque portal: www.payecheque.gov.hk;

(3) by sending a crossed cheque to the Treasury, PO Box No. 28000, Sham Shui Po Post Office, Hong Kong (please note that mail with insufficient postage will be rejected); or

(4) in person at any of the post offices or designated convenience stores in Hong Kong (i.e. 7-Eleven, Circle K, VanGo or U select). For the addresses and opening hours of post offices, please call Hongkong Post’s enquiry hotline on 2921 2222 or visit its website: www.hongkongpost.hk.

     If payers have not received the demand notes, they may obtain replacement demand notes or enquire as to the amount payable by (i) visiting the Rating and Valuation Department’s website: www.rvd.gov.hk; (ii) calling 2152 0111; (iii) fax 2152 0113; or (iv) visiting in person at the Rating and Valuation Department, 15/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon.

     Please note that there will be no rates concession for this quarter. The total amount due is shown on the demand note. Non-receipt or late receipt of a demand note does not alter the requirement that the total amount due must be paid on or before January 31, 2024. A surcharge of 5 per cent will be imposed for late payment. A further surcharge of 10 per cent will be levied on the amount (including the 5 per cent surcharge) which remains unpaid six months after the last day for payment.

     For payment by autopay, the rates and/or Government rent will be debited from payers’ bank accounts on January 31, 2024. Payers should ensure that there are sufficient funds in their bank accounts to meet the payments on that date until settlement.

     To support environmental protection, payers are advised to utilise the Rating and Valuation Department’s free eRVD Bill service to receive e-bills and make payments. Payers are also encouraged to settle bills by autopay or other means of e-payment (e.g. PPS, ATMs, Internet banking or e-Cheque/e-Cashier Order) in order to save queuing time. Application forms for autopay are obtainable from the Rating and Valuation Department, District Offices and major banks in Hong Kong or by telephoning 2152 0111.
