     The fire danger situation today (January 7) is yellow and the risk of fire is high. People are urged to prevent fires breaking out and hikers should also be vigilant.




HKETO, Brussels supports Belgian sports event and promotes Hong Kong as a green and dynamic city (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) promoted Hong Kong as a green, dynamic and healthy international city at the 2024 Run & Bike event in Vilvoorde, Belgium on January 6 (Brussels time).
 
     In her address, the Assistant Representative of the HKETO, Brussels, Miss Annie Loong, said Hong Kong shared the same vision as Run & Bike on encouraging sports activities in the community and promoting healthy lifestyles.  Hong Kong is also developing the city into a centre for major international sports events.  It has had Hong Kong Cyclothon held in late October 2023 and is now expecting the highly popular Hong Kong Marathon to take place in late January 2024.
 
     Miss Loong welcomed participants to visit Hong Kong not just for its prosperous business opportunities and vibrant culture, but also for its sports-friendly landscape possessing scenic waterfront promenades, spectacular hiking and mountain bike trails, and beautiful countryside, islands and beaches.
 
     Run & Bike is an annual, cosmopolitan sports event, comprising 8-kilometre and 16-kilometre races, as well as family and children's race.  The event this year saw the participation of 125 teams, each of which was composed of one runner and one mountain biker.  The participants come mainly from the diplomatic community, the business sector, European and international institutions and their families.  HKETO, Brussels was one of the main sponsors.

Missing woman in Kwai Chung located

     A woman who went missing in Kwai Chung has been located.

     Lai Hiu-yan, aged 23, went missing after she left her residence in Lai Yiu Estate on December 26, 2023 afternoon. Her friend made a report to Police on December 31, 2023.

     The woman was located on Tong Chun Street, Tseung Kwan O this afternoon (January 6). She sustained no injuries and no suspicious circumstances were detected.




Update on cluster of Influenza A cases in Kwai Chung Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
 
     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Influenza A in a rehabilitation ward (EXITERS), the spokesperson for Kwai Chung Hospital made the following update today (January 6):
      
     Two more male patients (aged 33 and 63) in the ward presented with fever or respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test result were positive for Influenza A. The patients concerned are being treated in isolation and are in stable condition.
      
     Admission and visiting arrangements to the ward concerned have been suspended. Infection control measures have already been enhanced according to established guidelines. The hospital will continue to closely monitor the conditions of the patients in the ward concerned.
      
     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.




Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps holds 140th New Cadets Passing-out Parade (with photos)

     â€‹The Civil Aid Service (CAS) Cadet Corps held the 140th New Cadets Passing-out Parade at the CAS Headquarters today (January 6). The parade was reviewed by the Deputy Secretary for Security Mr Howard Yam.
      
     Over 140 cadets were reviewed at the parade. Some of them are from schools participating in the 2023-24 School Partnership Scheme.
 
     The Cadet Corps Guard of Honour performed a flag-raising ceremony before the parade. It also joined the CAS Band and the Cadet Corps Side-Drum Team to stage a music and foot drill performance after the parade for the guests and parents who came to support the new cadets.
      
     Speaking at the parade, Mr Yam commended the CAS Cadet Corps for adhering to its founding objectives, "To Learn, to grow, to explore, to serve" over the past 55 years and actively providing cadets with training on national education and national security education so as to nurture future leaders with an affection for the country and Hong Kong, and also the dedication to serve the community. He said that he was delighted to see the success of the 55th anniversary celebration events held by the CAS Cadet Corps last year, which gave over 3 000 current cadets a joyous year to remember and former cadets who had entered the workplace a chance to reminisce about their happy days in the CAS Cadet Corps. Mr Yam said he believed that the CAS Cadet Corps will carry on with past successes while creating new achievements in the future.
 
     â€‹Looking forward to the future, the CAS will further enhance collaboration with schools in different districts, spare no effort to encourage cadets to participate in community service and discipline training, and continue to promote national education and national security education.
