     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (January 7) that due to big waves, the red flag has been hoisted at Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Sai Kung District. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at the beach.




Liquor Licensing Board to meet on Tuesday

Fatal traffic accident in Pat Heung

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Pat Heung yesterday (January 6) in which a 77-year-old woman died.

     At 1.36pm, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) linked with a container trailer driven by a 54-year-old non-ethnic Chinese man was turning left to Kam Sheung Road from a warehouse in Shui Tsan Tin, it reportedly knocked down the woman. After the impact, the MGV left the scene.

     Sustaining leg injuries, the woman was rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital in conscious state and was certified dead at 3.43pm.
 
     The driver later returned to scene and was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report after an accident. He is being detained for enquiries.
 
     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team one of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.
 
     Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3661 3800.

     Police strongly condemn the irresponsible driving behaviour of the driver. It not only jeopardises the safety of other road users and threatens ones’ personal safety, but is also the actual cause of serious traffic accidents. Police do not tolerate such acts and will take resolute enforcement action.

Novel ways to promote building safety

     The Urban Renewal Authority established the first Building Rehabilitation Resource Centre in To Kwa Wan which serves as a multipurpose one-stop hub that promotes building rehabilitation and provides assistance services. Since the centre officially opened in July 2023, about 6 000 people have entered its doors and more than 40 tours were organised.
      
     In addition to interviewing stakeholders, news.gov.hk spoke with Urban Renewal Authority Manager (Building Rehabilitation) Mr Samuel Wong to explain the features of the centre.
