     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (June 9) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Shek O Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island; Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Pui O Beach and Lower Cheung Sha Beach in Islands District.  Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.

     Association for the Rights of Industrial Accident Victims Limited has been issued a Public Subscription Permit to hold a territory-wide flag sale from 7am to 12.30pm today (June 9), a spokesman for the Social Welfare Department (SWD) said.

Information on the flag days of the month is available at the SWD's website (www.swd.gov.hk/en/index/site_whatsnew/). Permits for flag days containing contact information of the flag-selling organisations and information on the approved flag-selling activities have also been uploaded to the SWD's website (www.swd.gov.hk/en/index/site_pubsvc/page_controlofc/sub_recentlyap/). For enquiries about the detailed flag-selling arrangements, please contact the individual flag-selling organisations.
 
     Details of the charitable fund-raising activities covered by the Public Subscription Permit issued by the SWD have also been uploaded to the GovHK website (www.gov.hk/fundraising).
 
     In the case of suspected fraudulent flag day activities, people should not make any donation and should immediately report the matter to the Police, the spokesman added.

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (June 8) announced that a packed milk drink sample was found to contain excessive amount of Bacillus cereus, a pathogen. The CFS is following up on the case.

     A CFS spokesman said, "The sample was collected from a supermarket in Kwun Tong for testing under the CFS' routine Food Surveillance Programme. The test result showed that the sample contained Bacillus cereus at a level of 4 600 000 per gram. Under the Microbiological Guidelines for Food, if ready-to-eat food contains Bacillus cereus at a level of more than 100 000 per gram, it is considered unsatisfactory."

     The spokesman said that the CFS had informed the manufacturer and the vendor concerned of the test result. Investigation was conducted at the production plant and the supermarket concerned and follow-up samples were collected for further testing. Investigation is ongoing. The CFS had also provided health education on food safety and hygiene for the staff of the production plant and the supermarket and requested them to carry out thorough cleaning and disinfection.

     According to Section 54 of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Cap 132), all food available for sale in Hong Kong, locally produced or imported, should be fit for human consumption. An offender is subject to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for six months upon conviction.

     Bacillus cereus is commonly found in the environment. Unhygienic conditions in food processing and storage may give rise to its growth. Consuming food contaminated with excessive Bacillus cereus may cause gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting and diarrhoea.

     The CFS will alert the trade, continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action in order to safeguard public health and food safety.

     ​An exhibition entitled "Projects ∙ Objects ∙ Play – Tommy Li P.O.P. Design Show" will be held from tomorrow (June 9) to September 24 at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, revealing renowned local designer Tommy Li's source of inspiration and key to success.
 
     The exhibition will be divided into three zones with different themes, namely "Play", "Objects" and "Projects", presenting Li's perspectives on life, culture, society and design aesthetics. It will also showcase his personal selection of 97 objects that have been most influential in his design career and the cross-disciplinary design works and projects created with his team over the past 30 years, including commercial brand designs, books, periodicals and posters. In the exhibition, visitors will be able to witness Li's journey of more than 35 years in the design industry and his philosophical ideas about the economy, pop culture, art and design. Visitors will also gain a better understanding of how foreign pop culture influenced Hong Kong and its unique culture from the view of Li.
 
     Tommy Li, a renowned Hong Kong graphic designer and brand consultant, has been actively involved in the local design scene and won numerous international and local awards over the years. He graduated from the former Swire School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic in the 1980s and has worked in many culture-related positions since then, such as magazine column writer, disco DJ, and art director for films and a radio station.

     The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, will visit Belgium and France as well as attend a conference in Lindau, Germany, from June 14 to 25. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, and the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Nicholas W Yang, will join part of the visit to France.
 
     Mrs Lam will depart for Brussels, Belgium, in the early hours on June 14. She will meet with senior officials of the European Commission and the Belgian Government, attend events to promote various advantages of Hong Kong and visit local cultural facilities.
 
     Mrs Lam will go to France in the evening on June 15 and visit Bordeaux, Marseille and Paris. She will meet with senior officials of the French Government and members of the French Parliament, and will address seminars on the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, the Belt and Road Initiative and property technology. During her stay in France, Mrs Lam will also attend a ceremony on acceptance of helicopters for the Government Flying Service and events on the promotion of co-operation in tourism. She will also visit industries in relation to innovation and technology and cultural facilities.
 
     Mrs Lam will depart for Germany in the evening on June 21 for attending the Opening Ceremony of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting 2018 and a session on the promotion of science innovation across different cultures in Lindau. She will take the opportunity to visit a scientific research institution in Aachen before arriving in Lindau.
 
     Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong in the morning on June 26. During her absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, will be the Acting Chief Executive.
