Results of Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers released

     A total of 1 482 candidates sat for the English Language papers in the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (LPAT) 2018 in February while 2 118 sat for the Putonghua papers.
 
     The results of the assessment are as follows:

     The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) has sent the results notices to candidates by post. They are expected to reach the candidates tomorrow (May 25). Those who have not received the results by Saturday (May 26) should contact the HKEAA on 3628 8860.
 
     The Assessment Reports, which provide the chief examiners’ observations on candidates’ performance, including their strengths and areas for improvement, will be released in July through the websites of the HKEAA (www.hkeaa.edu.hk) and the Education Bureau (www.edb.gov.hk) for the reference of candidates, schools and teacher education institutions. The question papers, together with a CD for the listening tests, suggested answers and Assessment Reports, will be available for sale in July.
 
     Applications for re-checking of results will be accepted on or before May 30. Candidates will be informed individually of their appeal results by June 28.
 
     Those who intend to attain the LPR in future can do so through assessment and/or exemption. The next calls for applications to sit for LPAT and for applications for exemption will be made in September 2018 and November 2018 respectively. The details will be made available through Education Bureau circular memoranda in the 2018/19 school year. read more

Seventeen building plans approved in March

     The Buildings Department approved 17 building plans in March, with seven on Hong Kong Island, four in Kowloon and six in the New Territories.
 
     Of the approved plans, nine were for apartment and apartment/commercial developments, five were for commercial developments, one was for factory and industrial development and two were for community services developments.
 
     In the same month, consent was given for works to start on 10 building projects that, when completed, will provide 132 464 square metres of gross floor area for domestic use involving 2 221 units, and 51 400 sq m of gross floor area for non-domestic use. The department has received notification of commencement of works for four building projects.
 
     The department also issued 23 occupation permits, with six on Hong Kong Island, six in Kowloon and 11 in the New Territories.
 
     Of the buildings certified for occupation, the gross floor area for domestic use was 48 318 sq m involving 427 units, and 71 769 sq m was for non-domestic use.
 
     The declared cost of new buildings completed in March totalled about $3.8 billion.
 
     In addition, 10 demolition consents involving 10 building structures were issued.
 
     The department received 2 718 reports about unauthorised building works in March and issued 920 removal orders on unauthorised items.

June 2018 adjustment in ceiling prices for dedicated LPG filling stations

     The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department today (May 24) announced an adjustment to the auto-LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) ceiling prices for dedicated LPG filling stations from June 1 to June 30, 2018, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contracts of the dedicated LPG filling stations.

     A department spokesman said that the adjustment on June 1, 2018, reflects the movement of the LPG international price in May 2018. The adjusted auto-LPG ceiling prices for dedicated LPG filling stations will range from $3.23 to $3.77 per litre, representing an increase of $0.14 per litre.

     The spokesman said that the auto-LPG ceiling prices were adjusted according to a specified pricing formula. The formula comprises two elements – the LPG international price and the LPG operating price. The LPG international price is the LPG international price of the preceding month. The LPG operating price is adjusted on the first day of February every year according to the movement in the Composite Consumer Price Index in the previous year.

     The spokesman said that the details of the LPG international price and the auto-LPG ceiling price of each dedicated LPG filling station have been uploaded to the department website www.emsd.gov.hk. They are also posted at dedicated LPG filling stations to enable the trades to monitor the price adjustment.
