Fatal traffic accident in Yau Ma Tei

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Yau Ma Tei today (June 18) in which a 56-year-old man died.
      
     At about 3.03am, a taxi driven by a 23-year-old man and a taxi driven by a 67-year-old man were travelling along Nathan Road towards Mong Kok respectively. When passing junction of Nathan Road and Kansu Street, the taxi driven by the 23-year-old man reportedly collided with the taxi driven by the 67-year-old man. The taxi driven by the 67-year-old man reportedly lost control and knocked down a 56-year-old man on pavement.
      
     Sustaining injuries on the lower part of his body, he was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 3.44am.
      
     Another 27-year-old taxi passenger who sustained hand and shoulder injuries was sent to Kwong Wah Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.
      
     The 23-year-old taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.
      
     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West is underway.

HyD requests MTRCL to give detailed account of excavation works incident at SCL Exhibition Centre Station

     The Exhibition Centre Station is an underground station of the Hung Hom to Admiralty Extension Section of the Shatin-Central Link (SCL). During construction of the station, the contractor has to build temporary supporting structures for the carrying out of excavation works. 

     The MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) is entrusted by the Government as the project manager of the SCL works, it has the responsibility to ensure the safety and quality of the construction works.

     Regarding media enquiries today (June 17) on the excavation works of the Exhibition Centre Station, the Highways Department (HyD) had not received notification from the MTRCL before. The HyD has immediately followed up the matter today and requested the MTRCL to give a detailed account of the incident in writing within 48 hours. The HyD will not comment on the matter at this stage.




Award presented for the blood donors in 2018 Annual Donor Award Ceremony (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) held its 2018 Annual Donor Award Ceremony cum World Blood Donor Day Celebration today (June 17) to present awards to donors who achieved 50 donations and above (multiples of 25) in 2017/18. A total of 1,327 donors are awarded. A kick-off ceremony was also held to launch BTS' new mobile app "HK Blood" . With the help of the mobile platform, the message of “Give Blood Save Life” would be able to reach more people across the city.

Red flags hoisted at Cheung Chau Tung Wan Beach and Tong Fuk Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (June 17) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Cheung Chau Tung Wan Beach and Tong Fuk Beach in Islands District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.




Liquor Licensing Board to meet on Tuesday
