Police Recruitment Day (with photos)

The Hong Kong Police Force today (July 7) organised the Police Recruitment Day (Summer) at Police Headquarters, recruiting Probationary Inspectors, Recruit Police Constables and Police Constables (Auxiliary).

A total of 2,614 applications were received in this recruitment exercise. Applicants included graduates of local and overseas tertiary institutions, working people and ethnic minorities.

The Police Recruitment Day provides one-stop service to applicants, including initial screening and scheduling of written examination for Probationary Inspector candidates; initial screening and group interview for Recruit Police Constable candidates; and initial screening and seminar for Police Constable (Auxiliary) candidates, which helps shorten the time required for recruitment process. Successful applicants will undergo training at the Hong Kong Police College in October the soonest.

In the financial year 2018/19, the Force aims to recruit 1,850 police officers, comprising 230 Probationary Inspectors and 1,620 Recruit Police Constables, while the Auxiliary Police Force aims to recruit 320 Police Constables (Auxiliary).

The Force has been adopting a proactive recruitment strategy to attract high calibre candidates who possess the required competencies to serve. This year, the Force was presented with three awards, namely the Silver Award for the Best Graduate Recruitment Programme, the Silver Award for the Best Recruitment Advertising Strategy and the Bronze Award for the Best Career Website, by a leading human resource magazine in Asia.

The Police Mentorship Programme and the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme are two of the target-oriented recruitment initiatives for tertiary students. The Police Mentorship Programme offers opportunities for tertiary students to learn more about the diversified police work, while the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme recruits students to join the Auxiliary Police Force. The programmes have been run for more than 14 years and attracted more than 4,500 undergraduates to participate.

The Police Recruitment Division has also launched the second episode of “Madam’s Classroom”, which introduces to candidates the preparation for final interview.

The Force receives applications year-round. Any person interested in applying for the posts of Probationary Inspector, Recruit Police Constable and Police Constable (Auxiliary) may complete the application form at the Police website or mail the completed form to the Police Recruitment Division. Transcript of remarks by SEN

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, on electricity charges relief after attending a radio programme this morning (July 7):

Reporter: Mr Wong, some say $3,000 is not enough, is there any room to increase this amount? Also, are you confident that you would get the funding you need before the LegCo’s summer recess?

Secretary for the Environment: We have to understand why we are proposing $3,000 for the five years' electricity charges relief. The intention is to more or less offset the accumulated increase in the tariff for an average family. We calculated that for an average household with a usage of about 275 units (kilowatt hours) per month, the total accumulated tariff increase within five years is less than $3,000. So the intention is to offset that more or less but not to offset the original basic tariff. The idea is not to encourage wastage of electricity. In terms of the timing, we will try our best to promote our proposal. But we understand that for the Government as a whole, we have to consider various initiatives under the Finance Committee (FC)’s agenda items. So we would like to urge the relevant LegCo members to consider all the items under the FC list as a whole.
