     Following is the speech by the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, at the Commencement Ceremony of the United Christian College (Kowloon East) today (July 6):

鄭建德校長（匯基書院（���）校長）����師���家長，��嘉賓���畢業�學：

　　大家好�好高興出席今天的畢業典禮，見證大家�將�入人生的新階段。

　　回望�去這段學習生涯，大家�能會覺得既漫長��令人��。這六年，大環境充滿挑戰：黑暴帶來的�擊�三年的疫情；疫情�後，��追回學習進度和應付考試的挑戰。很大的壓力，亦是難忘的經歷。

　　校園永���大家�以一�回味的日常：飛�山腳下，學校快打�之際，��一個站�巴士跑返學校的「身水身汗�；�宿�的時候，一起��麵��電視那種「爽�；打完波�上完游水課，課室彌漫的「五味紛陳�，�天一起�飯時的「�水八��，還有一起打機�一起溫習，數�盡的一幕幕共�回憶。

　　回想幾個月�，大家或許還在�更抵夜，全力應付公開考試；兩個星期�，一身盛�出席�師宴；到今天，最後一次全體�學正�穿上校�，出席這個畢業典禮。

　　難怪有�學這樣形容時間：時而度日如年�時而光陰似箭。

　　一天的感覺有時也許漫長，但六年��得很快。還有一個多星期便是公開考試的放榜日，大家的心情難��忑。既希望付出的努力能有好的回報，也擔心�路如何。

　　�績，好�會決定一切。�是的，�績或許定論�去，�肯定�能決定未來。

　　幸�未來的真正關�，是我們�人生的態度�看�敗的視角。

　　�績�好，都敵��驕傲帶來的自我局�；�績�差，都阻止�了創�與堅�迸發的無��能。出色的�動員�百�粉絲的KOL��功的創業者�令人欣賞的�術家，都離�開��想的探索與追尋��目標的堅�與追求。

　　其實世界上沒有甚麽事情是確定的，無論是打機�出街�車，以至是人生的�路，��能�次都能夠以我們心目中最�想的�設模�出�。有時候，我們會用「��和「敗�來形容這些狀�，形�很大的情緒壓力。

　　變�是日常，應�常變的困惑，�時出�的挫折，有「三件法寶�我覺得是�常有用。

　　第一：我們�以用最具彈性的態度來��變化，為自己創造�項（alternatives）。

　　因為有�擇，我們�以��從容。�使未如所願，容許自己沉澱情緒，第二天起來�以�考一下，如何為自己創造�項。因為有得�，我們�以收拾心情�匯�注�力。

　　最快的�進路徑，往往�是一�直路。曾經有玩風帆的朋�告訴我，帆船最快的�進路線，是以「Z�型��。因此，最��的是方�正確。

　　如果一切順利當然好，但�實往往都是充滿起�和風浪，甚至挫折，還有很多�先想�到的困難和�外。

　　所以，��具彈性的態度，為自己創造�項，�以讓我們��心�質素�正��維，這�能夠為我們在�考未來時，創造最大的空間和有利�件。

　　創造�項，�來心境的�控�穩定以至正�的情緒，有助我們超越「��敗�得�失�的視角，更�識自己�更知�自己的期望�喜好�想法和能力，讓我們知�如何改進�如何��自己。更��的是，能幫助我們探索自己的人生目標。

　　第二：找出讓你能全神貫注的興趣，��好奇心，盡情探索�盡情學習。無論是學新的語言��動，�或是音樂�跳舞，甚至煮食等等。以好奇為動力去探索，這是人生�就感的主�來�之一。

　　因為有目標，我們�以克��程中的種種障礙；因為感興趣，我們�以�續多角度�多層次的去探索；因為�斷實�，無論是�功�是失敗，經驗的累�會讓我們更�識自己，進步會讓我們感覺活得精彩。

　　大家剛完�中學階段，未來無論是�學的學科決定，�或是工作的�擇，隨�階段��，人生目標也許會隨之變化。但是，無論如何，必須�找出讓你感興趣的事情�志趣或工作，這份真誠的興趣，會引導你在����的目標中享�人生。

　　�以說，「為自己創造�項�和「尋找讓你能全神貫注的事情�，是心��康的建構，也是幸�感的營造。

　　當然，我們也�為日後的發展，增添能�，就好�你們打機都�爭�「能�棒�。我想說的第三點是：�抱科技變�，善於利用人工智能（AI）幫助自己發展。人工智能已�為未來一段頗長時間全�的主題。

　　人工智能發展已到�「無�速�的新階段。四�年�電腦的出�，開啓了個人電腦�網絡�移動�置�應用程�和雲端�務。今天的人工智能亦正開啓一個新的時代。所有的�務，從金�貿易��輸物��消費出行�工業製造等等，人工智能都為「願�用�懂得用�善於用�它的人，帶來更高的生產力和競爭力。當然，�能你們�去在�功課時，已經��地用AI來幫忙�資料�集。

　　未來，AI會帶來新的工作�新的產��新的�務和新的�題。如果�懂得用四�年�的電腦，今天已追�上時代變化。�樣，今天懂得用AI，�代表以後都�然能領先。所以，最��的是「敢試�肯學�，而在學習�程�，容許風險�控的錯誤，這是最迅速學習新事物的方法。�試�的話，很難知�甚麼科技的路徑�是�行和�行。

　　你們很幸�，能在這個階段，�上科技創新變�的�一個大潮。��想�力，敢於將傳統產�和�務「�新定義�創造新體驗�，未來的�能性會超出你們的想�。��讓目�有�的知識��制了你們�未來的無�想�。

　　AI讓產�的研發與生命周期改變了，事情的處�速度加快了。但�強的AI也�能讓時光倒�。�論是快樂的日�，�或是苦悶的日�。這些方���在座的爸爸媽媽也許有更深感�。

　　昔日的å°�å­©å­�，今天轉眼中學畢業了。曾經希望他們快點長大，å�¯ä»¥é™ªä¼´ä½ ä¸€èµ·è¸¢æ³¢ã€�跑步或者「扮é�šã€�；今天他們長大了，已經å�¯ä»¥å’Œä½ ä¸€èµ·å®Œæˆ�的事情很多，但我們å��而懷念以往的時光。å�„ä½�爸媽昔日作了å†�多的犧牲，也ä¸�é�©å®œå°‡ä½ çš„「é‡�è¦�性ã€�，與孩å­�手機的å�¸å¼•åŠ›ç›¸æ¯”較，這個感å�—也許特別深刻å�§ï¼� 

　　回想�孩�們第一日回中學的那一幕，也許猶如昨天，今天便已經是畢業禮。AI�能告訴你，未來孩�們會如何發展。作為父�，我們希望�女能找到自己的興趣和奮鬥的方�，更希望他們發�潛能�享�人生，�希望他們身體�康��路寬��事業有��家庭幸�。作為父�，還有很多很多的希望�期望和寄望。但是，無論怎樣，是時候讓他們為自己的人生�決定�負責任。讀甚麼科目�到哪��學�找甚麼工作��識甚麼朋�，人生沒有固定的路徑，最��是學懂為自己和家人負責任，也懂得�真地生活，�論在順境逆境也有穩定的導航。

　　我們容許孩�有自由探索和試錯的空間，��需��供方�，引導和關懷愛護他們。愉快�洽的家庭相處，相互關愛�容許�自有發展的空間，互相扶��互相鼓勵�互相�就，一點一滴，都會�為孩�人生起�中的��支�。家庭的愛護與支�，是他們在關��長期的穩定錨點。��的是，孩�們也��解，父�給予你自由空間，但也需�你的愛護和支�。家庭，是需�我們一起努力的地方。

　　學校，在�學們的中學階段，是��的場景。校長��師們的教導和愛護，是�學們學習和�長�程中的關�一環。言教與身教�樣��，�師們與學生們日夕相處，快樂的�難忘的；�作的�矛盾的，都將會�為他們人生��的回憶部份。經�歲月的洗滌�時日的�濾，回憶中的苦味會變甘，甜味會變醇。很多說話和場景�能都在記憶中變得模糊，包括我今天的發言。

　　回想，我中學畢業禮的發言嘉賓是誰�說了甚麼，�在我也記�起來。��，我還是希望在今天能為大家增添一些記憶標籤。希望這個場景能讓你記�一點：�抱轉變�容許想��堅韌�行。

     Now, allow me to highlight briefly my key messages in English. 

     Students, over the past six years, you’ve faced numerous challenges – the social unrest, the pandemic, and the struggle to catch up with academic work. Now, you stand at a crossroads as the release of public exam results is near. 

     Let us remember that grades do not dictate your future. More crucial is your attitude towards life and your perspective on success and failure. 

     Life is full of uncertainties. And obstacles, too. And it is essential to maintain a flexible mindset and think of alternatives for yourself. There is always a choice.

     Moving forward, pursue what excites and interests you. Whether it’s learning new languages, sports, or other hobbies, your passion will help you overcome obstacles and bring fulfillment. Life-long learning is a must and will help you realise a fulfilling life.

     And embrace technology and innovation, like AI, to broaden your horizon and enhance your skills. The future is full of possibilities, and your openness to innovation and eagerness to learn will be key to your success. 

     For parents, I think we all agree that time flies. Once we had hoped that our children would grow up faster, but now maybe we missed the old days when they were just little kids. Now it is time to let go, to let them make their own decisions and enjoy their journey. As parents, what we can do – and should do – is to provide them with support, love, and care.

     Graduating students, cherish the fond memories of your campus life, and the companionship of teachers, schoolmates, and good friends. I’m sure you will be proud of your school and the experiences that have shaped you.

尊敬的潘雲�副特派員（外交部�香港特別行政�特派員公署副特派員）�Consul General Drulhe（法國�港澳總領事�麗緹）�譚耀宗常委（第�三屆全國人民代表大會常務委員會委員�民主建港�進�盟（民建�）會務顧�）��慧�常委（第�四屆全國人民代表大會常務委員會委員�民建�會務顧�）�陳克勤主席（民建�主席）�周浩鼎副主席（民建�副主席）�譚兆璋教授���嘉賓���朋�：

　　大家好。很開心�得民建�的邀請，與��一�出席這個中法建交60周年展覽的開幕儀�。

　　今年是中法建交60周年的��一年。國家主席習近平指出，中法關係的�特歷�塑造了�立自主�相互�解�高瞻�矚�互利共�的「中法精神�。今年五月，習主席�法國進行國事訪�。中法兩國承先啓後，發表四份���明，並簽署近20項雙邊�作文件，為兩國交��作打下更堅實的基礎。

　　在這個具標誌性的一年，民建�和譚兆璋教授共�主辦今次展覽，我�為具有三��義。

　　第一是彰顯香港的�特地�。香港在「一國兩制�下，展�背�祖國��通世界的魅力。香港市民以至�地訪客，能在香港這個中西薈�的國際都會，��今次展覽深入淺出地�識中法兩國在60年來如何建立全�戰略夥伴關係，我�為這方��常有�義。

　　第二是促進香港與法國的關係。中法兩國的夥伴關係，å°�於促進香港與法國之間的交æµ�å�ˆä½œï¼Œå¸¶æœ‰ç›¸ç•¶çš„啓發性。中法兩國相互ç�†è§£ã€�互利å�ˆä½œç­‰ç²¾ç¥žï¼Œå�‡å¾ˆåˆ‡å�ˆé¦™æ¸¯èˆ‡æ³•åœ‹åœ¨ç¶“貿ã€�文化等領域的關係。香港è�¯å�Œå»£æ�±çœ�和澳門今年五月在巴黎å�ˆè¾¦çš„經貿å�ˆä½œäº¤æµ�會ã€�æ¯�年在港舉辦的法國五月——這些項目正是增進彼此ç�†è§£å�Œå�ˆä½œçš„好例å­�。我期待雙方繼往開來，深化è�¯ç¹«ã€‚

　　第三是拓展愛國主義教育。�培養民眾的愛國情懷，我們必須用好軟性手法，讓他們先�識國家�從而��國家。國家的外交發展，亦是國情的��部分。我相信市民��展覽，能加深了解祖國的外交�就，從而加強國民身分��。

　　在這�，我代表特�政府，多�民建�和譚教授為我們帶來這個別具�義的展覽。我�展覽圓滿�功，大家身體�康�事事順利。

     Now, may I say a few words in English.

     My thanks to the DAB (Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong) and Professor Tam Siu-cheung for jointly organising this inspiring exhibition to mark the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations.

     As President Xi Jinping said this year, the unique history of China-France relations has shaped the “China-France spirit” of independence, mutual understanding, foresight, mutual benefit and win-win co-operation.

     In this symbolic year, the two countries issued four joint statements, and signed close to 20 bilateral co-operation documents, to lay a more solid foundation for exchanges and co-operation ahead.

     The thematic exhibition here couldn’t be timelier, I am pleased to note. It is particularly meaningful for the exhibition to be held in Hong Kong – a city with the unique advantages of enjoying the strong support of the motherland, while being closely connected to the world, thanks to the “one country, two systems” principle.

     This exhibition will guide Hong Kong people and other visitors to gain a quick understanding of how China and France developed a comprehensive strategic partnership in the past 60 years.

     With diplomacy being an important part of a country’s development, Hong Kong people can also deepen their knowledge of the motherland’s history and, in turn, strengthen their sense of national identity.

     No less important, the partnership between China and France provides valuable insight for the exchanges and co-operation between Hong Kong and France. I have every confidence that the two economies can forge closer ties in trade, culture, and much more, in the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual benefit likewise.

     On that note, I wish this exhibition a big success and all of you the best of health, and business, in the year to come. Thank you. read more

     The Home Affairs Department will continue to open 19 community halls/community centres as temporary heat shelters today (July 6).

     The temporary heat shelters will remain open for people to take refuge from the heat when the Very Hot Weather Warning is in force. From 10.30pm to 8am the next day, the temporary heat shelters will also provide bedding and a sleeping place for people in need. The shelters are manned by duty attendants.

     “Customs YES” organised a summer cultural study tour from July 1 to 6, during which 50 members visited Chengdu, Sichuan, to explore the historical landmarks and the Wolong National Nature Reserve and to gain a deep understanding of the country’s work in preserving history and culture, and conserving natural ecology.

     On the first day, the tour members visited the China Giant Panda Garden Shenshuping Base in the Wolong National Nature Reserve, where they experienced the work of the breeders and, through close encounters with the giant pandas, gained an in-depth understanding of the importance of conserving endangered wildlife and protecting the environment. The delegation then visited the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Museum to observe a moment of silence for the earthquake victims and to learn about the history of disaster relief and reconstruction efforts after the earthquake.

     In Chengdu, the delegation was led by the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Ms Louise Ho, and the directors and the presidents of the “Customs YES” Executive Committee and Honorary Presidents’ Association, to visit the Sichuan University Museum. They also participated in a lacquer painting workshop on the “Sun and Immortal Birds”. Afterwards, the delegation strolled through Jinli Street and enjoyed a performance of Sichuan Opera’s face-changing technique, immersing themselves in the charm of traditional Chinese art.

     In addition, Ms Ho led the delegation to participate in the opening ceremony of the 2nd Sichuan-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Exchange and Cooperation Week and launch ceremony of “Thousands of Hong Kong Youth Exploring Sichuan”. In her speech, Ms Ho said that although the youth from the four regions come from different backgrounds, she believed that through this platform, they could learn from each other, communicate with each other and establish cross-regional connections and friendships.

     On July 5, the Deputy Commissioner of Customs and Excise (Control and Enforcement), Mr Mark Woo, led the delegation to visit JD Logistics to gain insights into the enterprise’s diversified business areas and achievements in innovative technologies.

     Throughout the tour, the delegation also visited various landmarks in Chengdu, including the Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum, the Jinsha Site Museum and the Sanxingdui Museum, enabling them to appreciate and understand the glorious history of the ancient Shu civilisation from multiple angles.

     “Customs YES” will organise more exchange activities in the future to deepen young people’s understanding of the history and culture of the country, and strengthen their sense of national identity and pride.
