The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced today (July 29) that the Kwai Chung Crematorium will temporarily suspend cremation services starting from August 14, 2024, for the replacement of the cremators upon their expected service life and other refurbishment works. The construction works are expected to be completed and services are expected to resume by the end of 2027.
The refurbishment works are to enhance the facilities of the Kwai Chung Crematorium. During the closure period, the FEHD will release additional cremation sessions at the Cape Collinson, the Wo Hop Shek and the Fu Shan Crematoriums to maintain the overall provision of services.
The other FEHD funeral facilities and services adjacent to the Kwai Chung Crematorium, including the columbarium, Garden of Remembrance, abortus cremation facilities and temporary storage service for cremains, will maintain normal operations and will not be affected.
