The Civil Engineering and Development Department today (October 2) launched the Stage 1 Public Consultation exercise for the Feasibility Study on Environmentally Friendly Transport Services (EFTS) in Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area (NDA) and Adjacent Areas.

The NDA will be a next generation new town of Hong Kong. Apart from being a major source of housing land supply in the medium to long term, the NDA is also envisioned to serve as a "Regional Economic and Civic Hub" for North West New Territories, accommodating many diverse economic activities creating impetus to the economic development of the region. A highly efficient and convenient EFTS is essential to serve the population in the NDA and to promote a thriving local economy and foster the development of the NDA. The proposed EFTS will provide rapid transport services to support internal movement amongst the development clusters within the NDA and connect the NDA with the Yuen Long South Development.

The Feasibility Study is being conducted in two stages. The first stage of the Feasibility Study has been completed and shortlisted three suitable green public transport modes (namely automated people mover, green bus system and modern tram) for gauging public views. The public views collected will be duly considered in the second stage study with further assessment for determination of a recommended scheme for the EFTS.

The Stage 1 Public Consultation will last for two months. Activities including a public forum, focus groups meetings, roving exhibitions and mobile exhibitions will be conducted. Details of the activities and public consultation digest are available on the Study website (www.hskefts.hk). Members of the public are invited to send in their views on the Stage 1 study findings and recommendations through the following channels on or before November 30, 2019:
