Special scheme on delivering prescription medications to Hong Kong people in Guangdong and Fujian with urgent need for medications to cease shortly
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government today (November 19) announced that the special scheme to deliver prescription medications to Hong Kong residents who are currently in Guangdong and Fujian Provinces with urgent need for medications (special scheme) will cease after December 23, 2020.
As the HKSAR Government has introduced the Special Support Scheme for Hospital Authority Chronic Disease Patients Living in the Guangdong Province to Sustain Their Medical Consultation since November 10, and announced on November 11 details of the "Return2hk" scheme under which Hong Kong residents, upon fulfilment of specified conditions, will be exempted from the 14-day compulsory quarantine requirement when returning to Hong Kong from Guangdong Province and Macao, Hong Kong residents who are currently in Guangdong Province could seek suitable medical services through various means. In this connection, the Government decided that the special scheme on delivering prescription medications will cease after its last occasion of prescription medications delivery on December 23, 2020.
"The special scheme is a temporary measure which originally aimed to address the issues faced by Hong Kong residents currently living in the Mainland who are unable to attend follow-up medical consultations in Hong Kong and return to the Mainland as usual owing to the mandatory quarantine measures and the prescription medications taken by them may soon be running out. The special scheme has been launched for about nine months since February 24, 2020. Although prescription medications have been delivered to the patients concerned, for the sake of their health, the patients are urged to consult a doctor as soon as possible if they have not attended medical consultations for a long time," the spokesman said.
