Social Workers Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024 to be introduced into LegCo for First Reading and Second Reading

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The Legislative Council (LegCo) will hold a meeting on Wednesday (May 22) at 11am in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. During the meeting, the Social Workers Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024 will be introduced into the Council for the First Reading and the Second Reading. The Second Reading debate on the Bill will be adjourned.

     The Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024 will also be introduced into the Council for the First Reading and the Second Reading. The Second Reading debate on the Bill will be adjourned.

     In addition, the Second Reading debates on the Inland Revenue (Amendment) (Tax Concessions and Two-tiered Standard Rates) Bill 2024 and the Wild Animals Protection (Amendment) Bill 2023 will also resume. If the Bills are supported by Members and receive their Second Reading, they will stand committed to the committee of the whole Council. After the committee of the whole Council has completed consideration of the Bills and their reports are adopted by the Council, the Bills will be set down for the Third Reading.

     On Government motion, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury will move a proposed resolution under the Public Finance Ordinance to resolve that the Resolution of the Provisional Legislative Council establishing the Land Fund be amended. The proposed resolution is set out in Appendix 1.

     On Members' motions, Ms Joephy Chan will move a motion on establishing a model worker selection mechanism in Hong Kong. The motion is set out in Appendix 2. Dr Ngan Man-yu will move an amendment to Ms Chan's motion.

     Mr Tommy Cheung will move a motion on reforming the Medical Council of Hong Kong. The motion is set out in Appendix 3. Mr Kingsley Wong will move an amendment to Mr Cheung's motion.

     During the meeting, the Chief Secretary for Administration will present "The Government Minute in response to the Report of the Public Accounts Committee No. 81 of February 2024" and address the Council.

     Members will also ask the Government 22 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.
