Sick person in custody dies in public hospital
A sick 40-year-old male person in custody at Hei Ling Chau Correctional Institution died in a public hospital today (November 9).
The person in custody suffered from tuberculosis. He required continuous medical care and follow-up at the institution hospital. On October 30, he was sent to a public hospital for treatment due to physical discomfort and was later diagnosed with anemia and sepsis. During hospitalisation, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead at 8.52am today.
The case has been reported to the Police. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.
The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of theft in October 2019.
