The Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Miss Alice Mak, arrived in Dongguan this afternoon (December 27) to attend the opening ceremony of the second HK Great Carnival.
The Carnival, themed "Looking for the good stories of Hong Kong", is organised by the Bureau of Commerce of Dongguan City, Nancheng Sub-district Office Dongguan, and Dongguan City Association of Enterprise with Foreign Investment, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (GDETO) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council GoGBA Business Support Centre. It aims to support Dongguan-based Hong Kong enterprises to explore the domestic market and foster economic and trade exchanges between Hong Kong and Dongguan.
The GDETO collaborated with the Dongguan City Association of Enterprise with Foreign Investment to set up the Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Zone at the Carnival for Hong Kong young entrepreneurs who are based in Guangdong to showcase their products and services and explore new business opportunities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Miss Mak said that young people are an important driving force for high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). In April this year, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau rolled out a new round of the Funding Scheme for Youth Entrepreneurship in the GBA to provide youth start-up teams with start-up capital as well as entrepreneurial support services, with a view to helping more Hong Kong young people to establish their businesses in the GBA.
Miss Mak said that the governments of Hong Kong and Guangdong worked together to establish the Alliance of Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurial Bases in the GBA in December last year, gathering the resources of nearly 60 member organisations to provide better support for Hong Kong young entrepreneurs in the GBA.
Miss Mak encouraged Hong Kong young entrepreneurs to create their own entrepreneurial stories and pass on "Hong Kong stories". She said she looks forward to deepening co-operation with the Dongguan Municipal Government to promote youth development work in both places and encourage more young people from Hong Kong to participate in the development of the GBA.
