The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, and the Secretary for Development, Mr Michael Wong, visited Islands District today (December 7) to meet with members of the District Council and teenagers. They also inspected the proposed site for Cheung Chau Community Hall.
Accompanied by the District Officer (Islands), Mr Anthony Li, Mr Lau and Mr Wong first met with the Chairman of the Islands District Council (IDC), Mr Chow Yuk-tong, and IDC members to exchange views on district matters.
Mr Lau and Mr Wong then went to the Cheung Chau Rural Committee Integrated Youth Centre and exchanged views with local teenagers on youth and development matters. The centre provides a variety of activities and services for children and youths aged 6 to 24 in the district to cultivate their sense of responsibility, develop their interests and boost skills training.
Before concluding the visit, the two Directors of Bureaux proceeded to the proposed site for Cheung Chau Community Hall at Cheung Chau Sai Tai Road, and were briefed by staff from the Islands District Office on the project details. The Government announced in this year's Budget that $8 billion has been set aside to speed up the progress of district facilities projects to meet the rising expectations of the public. The proposed work of Islands District is the construction of Cheung Chau Community Hall, which will provide an additional event venue in the district. Space will also be reserved there for a Home Affairs Enquiry Centre.
