Service arrangements for GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities during Lunar New Year
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (January 23) announced the operational arrangements for the GREEN@COMMUNITY facilities during this Lunar New Year (LNY).
To facilitate the public in recycling their recyclables generated during the year-end clean-up, the EPD will maintain the normal recycling services of all the 82 Recycling Stores until January 27, while the services will end two hours earlier on January 28. All Recycling Stores will be closed from January 29 to 31 during the LNY holidays and resume normal services on February 1 (see Annex for details).
A spokesman for the EPD said, "During the closure of the Recycling Stores, the public may still place recyclables into the self-service recycling cage trolleys/receptacles provided outside some of the Recycling Stores (no GREEN$ services). People should not leave the recyclables outside the stores or on the street when the self-service recycling facilities are full, to avoid impact on nearby residents and the environment. The operators of Recycling Stores will regularly monitor the conditions of self-service facilities every day and clear the recyclables as needed."
The spokesman stressed that the EPD has discussed with the operators of the Recycling Stores to strengthen the monitoring of conditions outside each recycling point during the closure over the LNY holidays, including through CCTVs and regular inspections. The operators will deploy staff to promptly clear recyclables where required.
Additionally, 11 Recycling Stations will be closed from January 29 to 31, while GREEN@SHATIN and GREEN@WAN CHAI will remain closed on February 1. During the closure, the public can place recyclables into the self-service recycling facilities inside the stations or outside the gates and may seek assistance from the security guards stationed at the facilities if needed.
This year, the Recycling Stations will continue to support the recycling of peach blossom trees. The public can bring their peach blossom trees, with decorations removed, to the Recycling Stations for collection and recycling from February 5 to 13. The EPD will announce the details of the 2025 Peach Blossom Trees Recycling Programme later.
As for food waste recycling, normal services will be maintained throughout the LNY period. The public can continue to place food waste in smart food waste recycling bins and earn GREEN$ rewards as usual.
To facilitate public participation in recycling before and after work, the EPD has started progressively extending the regular service hours of Recycling Stores since November 1 last year. The normal service hours have been extended from 9am to 7pm, to 8am to 9pm.
