The Government announced today (October 25) that Mr Yu Tak-cheung, Deputy Director of Buildings, will take up the post of Director of Buildings on October 28, 2019, when Mr Cheung Tin-cheung commences his pre-retirement leave.
On the appointment of Mr Yu, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, said, "Mr Yu has proven leadership skills, profound professional knowledge in building safety and ample operational experience. I am confident that he will be able to lead the Buildings Department to meet the challenges ahead and continue to deliver quality service to the community."
On the retirement of Mr Cheung, Mr Law said, "Mr Cheung has served with zeal and commitment in the civil service over the past 37 years. As Director of Buildings, Mr Cheung has made exemplary contributions and led the department in setting and enforcing safety, health and environmental standards for private buildings. I wish him a fulfilling and happy retirement."

Mr Cheung joined the Government as a Student Building Surveyor in September 1982. He was promoted to Chief Building Surveyor in September 2005, to Government Building Surveyor in July 2012 and to Deputy Director of Buildings in June 2015 before being appointed as Director of Buildings in January 2017.

Mr Yu joined the Government as a Student Building Surveyor in October 1985. He was promoted to Chief Building Surveyor in September 2009, to Government Building Surveyor in July 2013 and to Deputy Director of Buildings in September 2017.
