SED leads delegation of Mainland study tour of senior secondary subject of Citizenship and Social Development to begin visit to Guizhou (with photos)

     The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, together with more than 130 students and teachers from Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary School joining the first Mainland study tour outside Guangdong Province of the senior secondary subject of Citizenship and Social Development (CS), today (November 17) attended the kick-off ceremony of the tour at Guiyang No.1 High School. She also led the delegation to visit multiple tour destinations in Guizhou.
 
     Addressing the ceremony, Dr Choi said that the number of routes of CS Mainland study tours has been increased to 26 in the 2023/24 school year, which includes seven routes of four to five days outside Guangdong Province, covering the Shanghai and Chongqing municipalities, and Fujian, Hunan, Zhejiang and Shaanxi Provinces, apart from Guizhou Province. As an integral part of the CS curriculum, CS Mainland study tours serve to enable students to gain first-hand knowledge of the country and its situation, and experience and appreciate Chinese culture through experiential learning, thereby enhancing their understanding of the latest developments and achievements of the country.
 
     Dr Choi expressed gratitude to the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Department of Education of Guizhou Province and various provincial and municipal units for their support and care for Hong Kong students, facilitating the smooth implementation of the study tour.
 
     After the ceremony, both Hong Kong and Guizhou students participated in school activities of different themes such as technology, art and labour practice. They also lunched together to deepen mutual understanding. Later, Dr Choi and the delegation toured the Baling River Guizhou Bridge Technology Museum and Baling River Bridge to learn about Guizhou's innovative and technological achievements in bridge construction. They will also visit Huangguoshu Waterfall to understand Guizhou's ecological environment.
 
     Yesterday (November 16), upon arrival in Guiyang by the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, Dr Choi and the delegation participated in a cultural study tour of the Geological Museum of Guizhou, Jiaxiu Pavilion and the Qingyun Market. Dr Choi also called on representatives of the Department of Education of Guizhou Province to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
 
     Tomorrow morning (November 18), Dr Choi will visit the National Big Data (Guizhou) Comprehensive Pilot Zone Communication and Experience Center to learn about the development and planning of the national big data industry, before returning to Hong Kong in the afternoon. The delegation will continue its tour and visit other spots in Guizhou Province to understand the local history, culture and development of innovation and technology.
