The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (August 8) met with Vice Governor of the Guizhou Provincial People's Government Mr Cai Chaolin to exchange views on deepening collaboration between Hong Kong and Guizhou on cultural and tourism fronts.
Mr Yeung said, "The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government capitalises on the advantages of the 'one country, two systems' principle and connects our country with the world by promoting culture and tourism development and collaboration. The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau has been showcasing the rich heritage of Chinese culture based on the principle of 'shaping tourism with cultural activities and promoting culture through tourism', achieving the goal of developing Hong Kong into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange under the National 14th Five-Year Plan. I am confident that with the country's support, Hong Kong and Guizhou could utilise the rich cultural and tourism resources in the two places, especially those in intangible cultural heritage, and contribute to creating unique experiences in Chinese culture and tourism."
Hong Kong and Guizhou Province both are rich in cultural and tourism resources. There are also Express Rail Link services connecting Hong Kong and Guizhou, giving the two places an edge in developing tourism activities. On the cultural front, Hong Kong and Guizhou have close collaboration in areas including performance arts and exhibition, with exhibitions on Guizhou's intangible cultural heritage held in Hong Kong well-received by the public in both places. In the meeting today, both sides explored ways to further enhance cultural and tourism exchanges, with a view to joining hands in boosting the development and inheritance of Chinese culture.
