School and work arrangement under Tropical Cyclone Warning
As Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 will remain in force till at least 11am tomorrow (October 9), the Government announced today (October 8) that classes of all day schools (AM, PM and whole-day schools), including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens, and kindergartens-cum-child care centres, will remain suspended tomorrow to ensure students' safety.
Employers are reminded to make work arrangements for staff during and after tropical cyclone and rainstorm warnings, including arrangements on reporting for duty, release from work, resumption of work and work from home (if applicable). In implementing the work arrangements and contingency measures, employers should give consideration as much as possible to the different situations possibly faced by individual employees and adopt a sympathetic and flexible approach.
"According to the latest weather forecast by the Hong Kong Observatory, as Typhoon Koinu is moving away from Hong Kong, rainfall may reach a high level of 250 millimetres per day. That may cause flooding and congestions on roads. The public are reminded to stay indoors or take shelter in a safe place until the heavy rain has passed." the Government spokesman reminded.
The Home Affairs Department has opened 29 temporary shelters. People in need can call 2572 8427 for enquiries.
