Regular quotas for Hong Kong cross-boundary non-commercial private cars using HZMB to Macao open for application

The Transport Department (TD) announced today (September 6) that 1 000 regular quotas for Hong Kong cross-boundary non-commercial private cars using the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) to Macao (Hong Kong quotas) will be open for application from September 9.

Private cars holding valid Hong Kong quotas are permitted to access Macao multiple times via the HZMB. The 300 Hong Kong quotas allocated from October 2021 will expire on October 23, 2024. The TD will reopen this batch of quotas for application together with 700 additional Hong Kong quotas in accordance with the arrangement agreed between the governments of Hong Kong and Macao, making a total of 1 000 Hong Kong quotas. Half of them are for company applicants, while the other half are for individual applicants. They are valid for no more than three years until October 23, 2027.

All eligible parties, including existing quota holders of the above batch, may submit applications. Successful quota holders are expected to be able to travel between Hong Kong and Macao via the HZMB starting from October 24, 2024, at the earliest. Quotas will be reallocated upon expiry through open application. This reallocation exercise does not affect the validity of quotas from other batches.

The eligibility criteria for the Hong Kong quota applications remain unchanged. The company quota is open for companies registered in both Hong Kong and Macao, or companies registered in Hong Kong that are associated with another company registered in Macao, while the individual quota is open to permanent residents of Hong Kong who are employed with remunerations in Macao or who have established a registered company in Macao.

Eligible applicants for Hong Kong quotas may submit their applications through the GovHK website (www.gov.hk/regularquotahkpctomacao) from 9am on September 9 to 5.15pm on September 20, 2024. A ballot will be conducted following the application deadline.
