Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases and three confirmed or preliminarily confirmed patients pass away

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (February 12), 145 patients who had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. Including one patient who was discharged earlier, so far a total of 14 183 patients have been discharged.

     A total of 1 939 patients who had tested positive are currently hospitalised in the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, the Hospital Authority (HA) Infectious Disease Centre, the Community Treatment Facility at AsiaWorld-Expo and 15 public hospitals, including three critical patients and 16 serious patients. The remainder are in stable condition.

     A 98-year-old male patient (case number: 19609) with chronic diseases admitted to Queen Mary Hospital Department of Accident and Emergency on February 9 due to preliminary positive rapid test result at the old aged home. He was subsequently confirmed with COVID-19 infection. The patient was under isolation treatment in stable condition and became critical yesterday (February 11). He continued to deteriorate and eventually succumbed at 7.59am today.

     A 75-year-old male patient (case number: 19078) with chronic diseases admitted to a surgical ward of Tuen Mun Hospital on February 4. He tested preliminarily positive on February 9 and was transferred for isolation treatment with stable condition. He deteriorated and eventually succumbed at 1.51pm yesterday.

     A four-year-old boy was transferred to Pok Oi Hospital (POH) Department of Accident and Emergency by ambulance at around 3.30am yesterday. The boy was asystole and stopped breathing upon arrival. The medical staff performed resuscitation immediately and adrenaline was given. The boy succumbed at 4.16am. The medical staff has taken sample of the boy and his specimen was tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19. In cooperation with the Centre for Health Protection, POH is performing contact tracing. No medical staff nor patient are classified as close contact so far. The case has been referred to the Coroner for follow up.

     Including these three patients, 210 COVID-19 confirmed patients and three preliminarily confirmed patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.

     The HA will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
