Hop Ching Marble Company Limited was fined $43,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (July 25) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on November 3, 2022, at a factory in Yuen Long. While a grinding and polishing machine was undergoing testing after the changing of a cutting disc, it was suspected that a hard object which detached and shot out from the machine struck a worker assisting in the work. The worker sustained a serious head injury and passed away nine days later.
