Secretary Michael R. Pompeo met today with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Khalid Al-Attiyah. The Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed their commitment to the strong bilateral relationship between the United States and Qatar, as well as their mutual interest in promoting security and stability in the region. The Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister discussed working toward a Middle East Strategic Alliance, anchored by a united GCC, to advance prosperity, security, and stability in the region. The Secretary and the Deputy Prime Minister also discussed the expansion of Al-Udeid Airbase and the upcoming U.S.-Qatar Strategic Dialogue.
