Postponement of Secondary School Places Allocation System schedule

The Education Bureau (EDB) today (March 17) reminded parents of Primary Six students participating in the current (2022) cycle of the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System that the schedule of the SSPA in the 2021/22 school year has been postponed in view of the vacations adjustment for schools.

A spokesman for the EDB said, "Under the notification arrangements for successful discretionary places (DP) applicants, the date for participating secondary schools to notify parents of successful DP applicants has been postponed from March 31 to May 4. For students notified as successful DP applicants by participating secondary schools who have also successfully applied for a place in a non-participating Direct Subsidy Scheme secondary school (NDSS secondary school), their parents should decide whether to retain the offer from the NDSS secondary school concerned on or before May 12. If the parents concerned decide to decline the offer from the NDSS secondary school, they should notify the NDSS secondary school concerned and retrieve the originals of the signed Parent's Undertaking and the Primary 6 Student Record Form on or before May 12 in order to retain the school place successfully applied for at the DP stage.

"As for the choice-making arrangements in the central allocation (CA) stage, the EDB will distribute the Secondary One Choice of Schools Form (Choice Form) and related documents to participating primary schools on May 6. Parents must complete and return the Choice Form to their children's primary school for submission to the EDB on or before May 30."

He added, "The release of SSPA results (for both the DP and CA stages) has been postponed from July 12 to July 26, and the date for students to register with the allocated secondary schools has been postponed to July 28 and 29 correspondingly. The Pre-Secondary One Hong Kong Attainment Test will be postponed to August 2 tentatively. The EDB will keep in view epidemic developments and make necessary arrangements as and when appropriate."

The aforementioned revised dates have been updated on the EDB homepage (path: EDB homepage (www.edb.gov.hk) > Education System and Policy > Primary and Secondary Education > School Places Allocation Systems > Secondary School Places Allocation System). Parents may contact the School Places Allocation Section (SSPA) of the EDB on 2832 7740 and 2832 7700 for further enquiries.
